Sweetwater is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,742 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Sweetwater was founded in 1873 by John Witherspoon and his family. The community became a ranching and cattle-raising center during the early years of its existence. The first schools in Sweetwater were two-room schoolhouses built on theranch land where today's homes are located. A post office was established in 1875 and remained operational until 1907 when it was moved to Hutto. A telephone company operated in Sweetwater from 1889 to 1907 with a tower covered by an old cotton gin that still stands today next to Interstate 35E (now I-35W). In 1915, a group of businessmen formed the Sweetwater Valley Cotton Exchange which traded cotton with other eastern states through their connections with railroads. In 1927, sweet water valley electric cooperative succeeded in getting its license to operate electricity services within Williamson County - one of the first such approvals received by state regulators in Texas prior to deregulation.[1] In 1951, Drury Paper Company began operations as one of the very few paper companies outside of Dallas/Fort Worth that could produce newsprint using local sulfite newspapers from Johnson Creek Ranch near present day Sweetwater Lake adjacent to Bullfrog Dam on trick or treat night for children visiting Bullfrog Scout campground just upstream from Johnson Creek Ranch on Trick or Treat Trail;[2] these papers continue to be produced by Drury Paper Company today! "SweetWater's Historic District encompassesonia commercial district dating back to 1873 when John Witherspoon foundedthe community." The Commercial District includes portions of downtown including three blocks east of Main Street between Second and Third Streets and two blocks north up Fourth Street between Church and Fifth Streets; all original buildings were single story wood frame structures with gabled roofs typical among pioneer ranchers and farmers near this site until after World War II when many subdivision developments began as businesses grew larger surrounded by new housing developments primarily constructed during late 1940s through 1960s following entry into interstate highway commerce following war's end."[3] "Today there are only a few reminders remaining from past days while much has changed since then including additions made subsequent thereto viz., erection of new annexes adjoining Downtown over time."[4] Everyday locals enjoy playing cornhole outdoors under trees at open space park northeast corner First & Main Streets beside creek on Saturdays during summer months; picnic tables set up inside park provide food for all attendees

Sweetwater was founded in 1872 by French Canadian settlers. The first post office was established in 1873. In 1907, Sweetwater amalgamated with neighboring Haysville to form the new town of Sweetwater and Haysville. The town has been home to many different businesses and families over its history including cattle ranchers, farmers, citrus growers, oil drillers and other industry workers as well as military personnel during World War II and the Cold War eras. The current Main Street Business District Historic District includes a variety of businesses dating back to 1870s such as general store, grocery store/bakery/delivery service, sawmill and livery stable. Many of these buildings are still present today and offer an interesting glimpse into early Sweetwater history while also preserving some important aspects of the community’s heritage such as its main street which is still consistently traveled by residents today for shopping purposes (although there have been some recent changes to this since annexation). SweetWater’s rich cultural heritage can be seen in its various museums which include the old courthouse which served as both court house and jail from 1907-1972; local hospital where patients were treated until 1898; locally made arts & crafts supplies store; sweet water creek that runs through downtown; 2 churches - one from before secession (1867) when it became part of Texas & one built after statehood (1902); 3 schools: 1 public school (grades Pre-K-5th), 1 private school (6-12th), & 2 church schools serving kids throughout pre-kindergarten through 12th grade - making it one of only 4 towns or rural areas within TX without any formal educational institutions for young children prior to 1960.; 6 Cemetery's - 5 from original settlers who ranged all over TX but settled near what would become Sweetwater; several contributing homes have been restored (& now open to visitors) in recent years & depict various periods in town's history including late 19th century thru 20th century antebellum periodicals mining boomtown growth stage late 1800s thru 1900s depression era post World War II style modern day reconstruction features In addition to its rich cultural heritage numerous festivals take place annually such as Riverfest on Memorial Day Weekend consisting of music concerts on Friday night along with food vendors trucking around downtown every weekend during summertime culminating with a parade on Saturday morning followed by fireworks display at dusk Thurday evening following lunch at local restaurant Downtown featuring Federal Government surplus goods donated by US Deptt foreign policy advisor wife upon her retirement from government service
