In 1915, J.C. Penney opened his very first store in Sweetwater and quickly became one of its biggest patrons/workers. By 1925 he had developed a large shopping complex with over 100 stores inside and outside of town limits--a typical early mall development for this era. Today Penney Plaza is stilltall standing and can be found easily within walking distance from almost all downtown businesses including several restaurants and grocery stores as well as various movie theaters (including Regal) during peak tourist season;[2] making it one ofFort Worth's more popular tourist destinations today despite having lost much of its original retail importance since then! One notable resident throughout these years was Rufus Jones who served two terms as Mayor (1946-1950) before becoming Collector of Customs for Tarrant County in 1952; later serving as City Manager from 1974-1978 before retiring at 65 years old due to health problems which led him to spend his last few months living in his home until his death on October 10th 1978 surrounded by family & friends who affectionately called him 'Rufus Booty' even though he never actually left Texas!). Because Downtown Sweetwater has always been a commercial center forDallas County since its incorporation into Dallas County as a municipality on November 15th 1907 (the same day as Dallas), most events that occurred within Downtown Sweetyawar take place along Main Street between Dunsmore Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard or other streets nearby including Arlington Cemetery/University Park Plaza where over 100 educational institutions are headquartered - making Downtown Sweetyawar one of America's largest academic districts
