Sweetwater, Texas is home to the world's third oldest gun shop, The Old Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Museum. This museum is dedicated to the history of firearms in Sweetwater County. The first firearm store in Sweetwater County was opened on Main Street by Amos Schieffer in 1871. The store was known as the "Gunsmith Shop" because it served as a stop for travelers on their way to Wichita Falls or Fort Worth. The Gunsmith Shop closed in 1925 but continued to be used until 1984 as the location for the now defunct Sweetwater Historical Society. In 1944, Gurney & Associates east of town opened a second handgun store called G&A Secondhand Arms which became one of the most successful gun stores in Texas. It operated until 1993 when it merged with two other businesses and changed its name to Gurney's Guns & Ammo Incorporated. From 1994-1998 G&A Secondhand Arms was located at 426 US Highway 287 just north of downtown Sweetwater before moving back into its old building on Main Street in 1998 which still serves as their current headquarters today. In 2003, O'Connor Firearms began storing handguns within walking distance of their original location off Elmendorf Road inside an old cotton gin complex that had been converted into a shooting range and pistol factory by Perry O'Connor Sr.. After several years of operations they moved out of the complex and into a larger building on FM 1488 about 5 miles south of downtown Sweetwater where they remain today. Today there are threegun shops operating within sweet water county - Gurney's Guns & Ammo Inc., O'Connors Firearms Sales, and Eastern Gunworks - making it one of the most competitive areas for handguns available anywhere in America!

Sweetwater, Texas is a town in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. The name is most likely derived from the Spanish word "sugar" and refers to its location on the banks of the Sabine River. The town first formed in 1876 when two families pooled their resources to build a trading post on what is now Sweetwater Creek. In 1881, Sweetwater was incorporated as a city. It lost its city charter in 1906 but regained it in 1972 under the name of Sweetwater City. The townsite that now stands in sweetwater was once used by cattle ranchers for branding and other purposes. A post office has been in operation here since 1876. In 1902, Andrew Carnegie donated land to be developed into a township; Sweetwater Township was organized on February 14, 1903. On November 2nd of that year, voters approved annexation by Houston of Conroe and Spring Branch municipalities (later renamed Sugar Land). At that time there were only about 30 people living in this area; today the population reaches over 10,000! In 1910 an oil well was drilled south ofSweetwater; production began soon after and continues to this day. This led to great development for Sweetwater with many new businesses opening up along with more homes being built throughout the years- something which cannot be said for many other towns around this part of Texas! One such company which thrived during these years was Home Telephone Company who ran one of the largest telephones companies in TX! They also had some amazing murals created by local artists back then which can still be seen today if you're lucky enough to find them! Another company which did quite well during this time period was Gulfstream Airlines who operated out of Sweet Water from 1978 until their closure in 2003! It's truly an interesting history here folks!
