Sweetwater, Texas is a small town located in west-central Texas. It was founded in 1876 by two brothers, Jesse and John Sweetwater. The town was named after the nearby sweet water creek. In 1906, Sweetwater became the site of one of the most famous gunfights in history, known as the Battle of Sweetwater Creek. The battle occurred between American forces led by General Ulysses S. Grant and Mexican troops under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. The Mexican troops were supported by artillery from Mexico City; however, the American forces had better firepower and managed to rout their opponents. After the battle, General Grant ordered his forces to return to their homes near Vicksburg, Mississippi. However, when they got there they discovered that Mexican artillery had still not arrived so he ordered his men to march back into Mexico City and take down the cannons there. As a result of this fight, over 50 Americans were killed and over 100 were wounded including future President James Buchanan

Sweetwater is a town in southern Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Arkansas River (now Sweetwater Creek), which forms its eastern border. The first Europeans to visit Sweetwater were horse traders and stage drivers traveling through the area on their way to Chihuahua City. In 1836, John Wesley Powell passed through Sweetwater on his trip up the Arkansas River. In 1865, General Josiah Bancroft founded Fort Worth and named it after his friend and mentor Congressman James Kenedy. sweet water creek

Sweetwater is a town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. Sweetwater was founded in 1859 by cattle ranchers and settlers who named it after the sweet water of the same name located in present-day Wichita County, Kansas. The first post office in Sweetwater was established on November 6, 1859, and served for one year. In 1860, a sawmill and grist mill were built in what is now downtown Sweetwater. A cotton gin was also built soon thereafter. The first school opened in 1865 and became known as "Mama's Little School" until it moved to its current location in 1870. In 1876, Jens Henningsen donated land to build the first courthouse in Medina County. The courthouse was completed on October 2 of that year and became known as "The Queen's Bench". Soon thereafter, other settlements were started withinSweetwater limits; these included Crystal City (1877), Pecos (1879), Belleair (1881), El Paso (1883), Devine (1885), Goodyear Heights Rancho Seco ( 1886-87) and Beaumont( 1889). The railroad arrived to Sweetwater with great fanfare on December 12th, 1892 when two locomotives pulled by horses arrived at the depot from San Antonio de Bexar Railroad Company sponsored by James Kenedy Sr., Mayor of Sweetwater at that time. At this point, all commerce withinSweetWater boundaries ceased because of the construction of a new pipeline across Medina County linking San Antonio with Lubbock via Marshall Field & Co.'s Midland Railway line near Sante Fe Springs - an event which has been erroneously cited as marking the end of American westward expansion into Texan territory
The town of Sweetwater was founded in 1851 by a group of pioneers who arrived from Missouri. The town grew rapidly and soon became a center for cotton farming and cattle ranching. Sweetwater experienced some major changes during the 20th century, most notably during World War II when the town was occupied by Japanese Americans. In the 1990s, Sweetwater was renamed after Confederate general William T. Sherman because he had played an important role in the Battle of Wilson's Creek.
