Sweetwater is a city in west Texas, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jeff Davis County. Sweetwater's history dates back to 1872 when it was founded as an outpost on the banks of the Rio Grande by Anglo-American settlers. The city was named for General John Fayette Sweetwater, who served in the Mexican–American War and later became United States Secretary of War under President James K. Polk. The first post office in Sweetwater was established on July 6, 1872, and remained open until November 14, 1886. In 1896, the townspeople voted to change its name to Sweetwater after General John Fayette Sweetwater's death at Battle Creek in Michigan that year. As a result of this vote,Sweetwater replaced Comanche as the official name of the City of Sweetwaters during 1898-1902 when Comanche refused to give up their independent status although they were no longer part of Texas'. However, since then all local government documents have been called "Sweetwaters". In 1907, SweetWater annexed part of present day Brown County which made it second most populous county within Jeff Davis County behind Johnson County (the county seat). During World War II much progress had been made in creating Blackhawk Army Air Base but due to lack military funding sweet water lost access to this important airbase on October 15th 1945 . . . consequently leading many manufacturing companies such as GM and Ford outta town or moving offshore into Mexico because there would be no way for them get their products into America while production lines were being dismantled off shore! On January 1st 1961 citizens approved annexation by Hudspeth County giving sweet water a total population over 10K residents making it one of Texas fastest growing cities along with Amarillo! On December 3rd 1984 voters approved incorporation into Jeff DavisCounty giving sweet water even more residents & businesses! Today sweet water continues growth with new neighborhoods being developed including: West Wing developments near IH35 & FM 1960; Riverwalk developments just outside downtown;Nearby Missions Park offers great recreational opportunities; multiple light industrial parks located throughout downtown area; updated shopping center with several large stores (#1 Houston mall); plus continuing rapid growth in bedroom communities like West Wing (just east OF IH35) ; Cedar Springs (northwest Of IH 35) ; Northside (southwestOf IH 35 ); Cross Timbers (east Of IH 35) etc., making it one complete community not only geographically but also economically !

Sweetwater, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 9,531 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The foundation for Sweetwater was laid by John Wesley Powell in 1872 during his 1871 trip to Plains and Tarrant Counties as part of his exploratory work for the United States Geological Survey. The land that would later become Sweetwater was donated by Judge George P. Hance who also founded Rainbow Valley Reservoir in nearby Arlington Heights. In 1895, the first post office opened in Sweetwater with Wm. Hogg as its owner and clerk. It remained an inactive post office until 1902 when it changed its name to Sweetwater after Avis Jourdain's husband, General William Rucker Jourdain, became US Postmaster General that year. In 1907, local farmer Tom Fenton erected a dam on Brushy Creek which provided power for his watermill and irrigation system for much of central Tarrant County. The mill still stands today and generates electricity using wind turbines today! A major event that took place in SweetWater occurred on November 25th 1941 when World War II began with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and American forces entered the war against Japan under President Franklin D Roosevelt (1933-1945). After America's entry into World War II, there were many changes take place throughout Oklahoma City due to the booming economy of war time America which included increased taxes and infrastructure development such as highways and airports being built all over Oklahoma City like Tinker AFB (now Tulsa Airport) becoming one of largest Air Forces training sites ever created with thousands of pilots/aircrews from throughout the military stationed here including Ho Chi Minh Air Force Base adjacent to Tulsa Municipal Airport while numerous factories produced goods needed by American soldiers both home front and abroad such as weapons manufacturer Raytheon Company manufacturing radar equipment used by airfields all over Europe etc etc etc... sweet water had no choice but to get involved as businesses like Grumman Aircraft Corporation Manufacturing jet fighters/helicopters production started up immediately along with several other local companies producing various items related to war production like clothing lines operated by women such as Browns Mills Clothing Factory producing uniforms for troops overseas; trucking services ran by companies such as Econoline Lines operating routes connecting servicemen home base with fronts around the world; Numerous stores were opened up just like Peoples Drug Mart opening near I-635 & NW 8th Street opposite Wichita State University serving troops stationed allover country along side grocery stores carrying supplies from warehouses across USA railroad tracks running through town; nightlife wasn't left out either with several bars established like Topeka Lounge open 24 hours every day serving drinks & food inside or outside depending on weather conditions...the list goes on! When peace returned to our nation following World War II there were many changes take place back at home too although some things stayed essentially same enormally people worked their individual jobs paying their own rent & childcare while family members supported each other within guidelines set by society largely unchanged... howeverSweetwater did experience a change in 1951 when Local Coke Bottling Co.,Inc.,was set up - one that would last until present day! Coca Cola became an official sponsor of local football teams beginning in 1950 contributing millions of dollars per season towards stadium construction & player salaries making this one momentous occasion in town’s history!!! Now more than ever locals are proud to call themselves “Coca Cola Texans”!!!

It was founded in 1876 as an agricultural town on the banks of the San Antonio River. The name comes from Spanish for "wine water", due to its abundant wine grape production. The first post office in Sweetwater was established in 1877, and the first store opened in 1880. The railroad arrived in 1887 and made it possible forSweetwater to become a boomtown with businesses like grocery stores, hotels, and cotton plantations backing up its new economic development. In 1907, Sweetwater became the second largest city west of Austin after Pasadena; while Pasadena grew faster than Sweetwater during that time period because it had access to Interstate 10 (now I-35) which connected them both quickly. In 1954, Sweetwater voters passed a resolution authorizing annexation by Lubbock which took place two years later on November 6th. As part of this annexation process Lubbock also renamed their city "Lubbock" as part of the agreement between those two cities. Today's economy is based primarily on ranching; however some smaller businesses are still active such as A&P Grocery Store and Wells Fargo Bank which have been around since before annexation occurred
