Sweetwater, Texas is a small town located in the US state of Texas. It was founded in 1879 by J.M. Sweet and his brother-in-law, Hiram Bingham, as an ammunition depot on the banks of the San Antonio River. By 1886, Sweetwater had become a commercial center for shooting sports and rifles. The town was renamed "Sweetwater" in 1915 when it became part of the new county of Webb County. In 1916, Sweetwaterbecamethe first city in Webb County when it was incorporated as a village.
