Sweetwater is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Sweetwater is located just east of the Hillsboro Bridge and west of I-35/I-10. The first people to live in Sweetwater were the Comanches and Kiowa who hunted and fished there. A post office was established in 1868, and by 1870, Sweetwater had a population of 20 residents. In 1888, local ranchers acquired 12 acres (5 hectares) of land on which they built an inn and their own cotton gin. By 1903, Sweetwater had a school and two churches: one Baptist and one Methodist. In 1907, President William McKinley awarded land to John Withers for use as a cotton plantation called "Withers' Hope". The community name "Sweetwater" originated from this development. However, by 1912 it had reverted to its original name: Hudspeth County Agricultural School District #1 reported that only 10% of all hogs raised here were marketed; most were consumed within the district's borders or used for hog hunting preserves near Carthage Prairie State Park managed by Baylor University Extension Service-Hulsey Field Station). At the end of World War II many men ended up in basic training at Camp Blanding near Fort Worth before being sent home to farms across America where they worked until they could return to enlisted service with their unit or leave again after discharge when their enlistment expired or lapsed entirely In 1946 Hudspeth County reorganized into eight agricultural districts #1-8 with Sweetwater becomingDistrict 3 headquarters farmstead center), but still using "Sweet Water" as its community name until 1951 when it became an independent municipality under its present boundaries . After establishment as an independent municipality on December 31st 1951 it adopted the name "SweetWater" which has been our selfadopted municipal name ever since

Sweetwater was a small town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. It is located east of the city of Lubbock on the banks of the Chisholm River. The population was 2,500 at the 2000 census. The first white people to arrive in Sweetwater were two men from Tennessee in 1881. They named their new settlement after their old home sweet water creek in Johnson County, Tennessee. The town began to grow rapidly as cattle and oil interests grew around it. By 1907, Sweetwater had a post office, schoolhouse and sawmill; three churches; a grocery store; a blacksmith shop; and several hundred homes. In 1912, Sweetwater became an incorporated city with its own government and police force. The town's growth continued until the early 1960s when it was annexed by Lubbock. From 1915 to 1922, Sweetwaterwas home to one of Lubbock's leading nightlife districts known as "The Strip". This district featured live music venues such as the Melodyland Theatre and Flamingo Ballroom and also included businesses such as Jolson's Cigar Shop and Texaco gasoline station on Main Street between Third Avenue and Cherokee Drive NE. After annexation by Lubbock, most of these businesses were closed or converted into shopping malls or apartments that remain today along with many other buildings from Sweetwater's past including the original post office building which still stands within walking distance of numerous restaurants and shops
