However, within one decade Fort Worth had contracted out all but half of its municipal services to private companies and the city's coffers dwindled as a result. In 1974-1975 City Council considered annexing back to Sulphur Springs but decided against it because they felt their citizens would not have enough say in their municipality's future direction given that Fort Worth no longer had any need for them within its borders (nor did they want annexation). Today there are just over 2 thousand residents living in Sulphur Spring while downtownFort Worth has more than 20 thousand employees representing some 350 companies!
