Ross Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1898. On December 12, 1899 a local man named Harvey W. Hargrave shot an elephant at the range. The first shotgun range in Sulphur Springs opened its doors to the public on November 1, 1907. Ladd Gun Shop became operational on May 6, 1912 with Norma Ahern as the first certified marksman. On October 26 of that year Clyde Kapp registered his version of the air pistol which he called "Kapp's Pistol".
Sulphur Springs is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,972 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston metropolitan area. Sulphur Springs was founded in 1879 by John Sulphur and his wife Jane on a farm near present-day Cypress High School. In 1899, Sulphur Springs became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and nine trustees. The first post office opened in 1903. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1907 but it was rebuilt with new homes and businesses including the Sulphur Springs Hotel which still stands today. In 1932, during the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered an address at Sulphur Springs high school (now Cypress-Hills High School). The town has experienced various boom times over the years such as during World War II when it supported several thousand residents; during the early 1960s when agricultural production increased; during the late 1990s through 2000s when economic development increased; and since 2006 when heavy rains have caused flooding that has destroyed many homes and businesses in downtown Sulphur Springs

Sulphur Springs began as a Methodist Episcopal church and mission station on an old farmstead in 1881. The first post office opened in 1886. In 1902, Sulphur Springs incorporated as a town. The community name comes from the sulphurous water thatSurrounds it. Sulphur Springs is situated on White Sands Creek and features several springs that provide water for residents and businesses. The first store in Sulphur Springs was founded by J H Davis in 1881. A cotton gin was built in 1887 by John Doe and operated until 1914 when it burned down due to fire hazards caused by the cinnamon oil spills from nearby Pecos Bayou . A blacksmith shop and grocery were also established early on in Sulphur Springs history but ceased operations around 1915 because of lack of business opportunities . In 1903, two brothers named Waddell bought property near present day Sulphur Spring Elementary School which they turned into a cattle ranch . They named their ranch "New Mexico" after their home state of New Mexico This operation continued until 1934 when Waddell sold all his land to Harry Brockman who donated it to the school board for use as an elementary school campus In 1916, Mrs Fenton leased land southwest of present day Sulpher Spring High School from Mr William J Sellers who had been operating a shoe factory there since 1912 Mrs Fenton later donated this property to the school board for use as an extension wing of Sulpher Spring High School By 1920, most populated areas within what is now Hudspeth County were under one jurisdiction with only four municipalities remaining under separate jurisdictions: Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Corpus Christi/ Port Arthur/ Sam Houston Area (Houston), San Angelo/ Alpine/ Sweetwater (Amarillo) . However , with World War II raging throughout much of America and many citizens moving away for military service or other reasons , several small communities sprung up around major cities such as Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex where people could still live close to their jobs while they fought overseas In 1925, Mr Charles E Latham moved his chemical plant 10 miles east of downtown Dallas out of fear that Allied bombers would hit his plant if he remained within easy striking distance GreaterDallas gas plants
