Sulphur Springs, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Sulphur Springs post office was established on August 29, 1872, and was discontinued on December 14, 1912. The first settler in Sulphur Springs was J.C. Dickey who arrived in 1871 from Kentucky with his family. J.C.'s brother-in-law Wm Mosely also settled in Sulphur Springs in 1872 and became one of the first farmers in Medina County. The name "Sulphur Springs" originated with the discovery of sulphurous gas near present day Sulphur Springs by John Wesley Powell during his exploration of central America for energy resources in 1902-1903. At that time there were no settlements within modern day Medina County other than those existing around Fort Worth and Dallas along the Mexican border which were source for petroleum production until after World War II when oil discoveries began to take place offshore off Texas's coast including nearby Corpus Christi and Galveston Island In 1916 an effort started to form a community around Sulphur Spring as a result of natural gas deposits being discovered north of town by George Lusk under license from Standard Oil Company Limited In 1924 incorporation took place with a population of seventy five people In 1928-29 water rights were acquired from Ector Utilities Company resulting in increased development including several brickyards and mills while also providing employment for many people This growth led to citizens Demand for their own school built which opened its doors September 15th 1930 named after Mrs H C Moody President of Gulf States National Bank

Sulphur Springs is a small town in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Sulphur Springs-Midway City Micropolitan Statistical Area. The community of Sulphur Springs was founded in 1881 by early settlers from Missouri and Illinois. At first the settlers used natural gas to light their homes and cook their food, but soon they discovered that this type of energy could not be sustained over long periods of time. So they began to build electric lights for their homes and businesses using a local power plant that had been built by the railroad company. This facility served as the town's main source of power until 1907 when it was leased to a waterworks company. In 1916 Sulphur Springs became an incorporated municipality with its own government and police department; it remained an unincorporated community until 1951 when it became part of the Midway City Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 1984, Sulphur Springs lost its status as an unincorporated community and became a full city under Mayor Tom Ladd's leadership. Today, Sulphur Springs is home to many businesses including Gulfstream Park Golf Course, Gap Rentals Store & Bed & Breakfast, IHOP restaurant, Walmart store and two churches - First Baptist Church (founded in 1885) and Second Baptist Church (founded in 1861). The city also has several parks including Gulfstream Park Senior Center which serves as the town's recreation center; Hubbard Park which features a playground/arcade; White Sands State Park which includes three beachfront campsites; and Allatoona Hills Cemetery which contains interment sites for both Confederate soldiers killed during World War II as well as later generations of residents who have lived here since before then.
Sulfur Springs was founded in 1872 by J.D. Hill and his brother-in-law, James Hines. They named their town after a mineral deposit they discovered near present day Sulphur Springs, TX. The brothers started a cotton gin and mill in the early 1870s, but it didn't take off until after they acquired the land around Sulphur Springs from the Mexican government in 1876. In 1881, they built the first post office in Sulphur Springs. In 1907, Sulphur Springs became an independent city when it split from Waco. In 1940, it merged with Waco to form the current city of Waco.
