Sulphur Springs, Texas is a small town in Crowley County, Texas, United States. The population was 981 at the 2010 census. Sulphur Springs was founded in 1887 by James S. Dunn and his wife Emma as a stop on the stagecoach route from Austin to Fort Worth. In 1912, Sulphur Springs incorporated as a village and began to develop into a small town with an estimated population of 100 in 1920. The post office closed in 1965 and the last mail carrier left Sulphur Springs on October 10th of that year. By 1970, there were only 8 residents living in Sulphur Springs and it had been taken over by the military for use as an airfield during World War II. After the war ended, Sulphur Springs saw some growth with new development such as a shopping mall built in 1974, but it all stopped when the economy crashed near the end of the decade. Today, there are few businesses operating within town limits and most residents rely on agriculture or tourism which have helped keep alive some semblance of community life despite its current state.

Sulphur Springs, Texas is a small town located in Midland County, Texas. The population was 2,828 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Amarillo, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sulphur Springs is located on the banks of the Arkansas River and it has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa). The name "Sulphur Springs" comes from an old creek that emptied into the Arkansas River near present day Sulphur Springs. The first post office in Sulphur Springs was established in 1881. At that time there were only five residents living in Sulphur Springs. By 1890 there were twenty-one residents and by 1900 there were thirty-eight residents. In 1912 Sulphur Springs had its own school system with twelve students and two teachers. In 1920 it had fifteen students and one teacher. The first store in Sulphur Spring opened for business on May 1, 1921. It was called the General Store and served as a community center until it closed in 1984 when it was replaced by the current store which opened in 1985. On December 14, 1925, more than one hundred people congregated at the old church to witness Charles Manson's release from prison after serving nine years of his sentence imposed for attempted murder of two people at her home on August 5th, 1969 In 1941 oil well #7 discovered oil within three miles of where Sulpher springs sit today! This event led to an increase in production at nearby Anaconda Crude Oil Company facilities as wells became available to be drilled deeper into shale formations waiting to be tapped for oil reserves! After World War II ended local industry slowly began dying out due to lack of new technology or investment being made outside of North America; this left Midland County searching for new industries to support during this difficult time period! Once again Steel manufacturing came up with a great opportunity as many American companies stopped production during WWII because they couldn't find enough materials overseas anymore! However like all things starting with an idea can go wrong….steel prices increased so much that American companies could no longer afford not to produce steel any longer so steel mills closed leaving Midland County without any traditional economic mainstay! Consequently many farmers lost their land which forced them out onto streets near steel mills sites…..this created blighted areas filled with abandoned buildings used primarily by drugs traffickers looking for cheap labor

The city experienced significant growth during the 1920s and 1930s as cotton production increased in the area. By 1941, Sulphur Springs had reached its peak population size of approximately 60 people. However, during World War II, the town saw significant declines in population due to military activity and then rapid economic decline following the war. In 1951, Sulphur Springs merged with nearby Denton to form Denton Municipal Authority. However, within two decades it had again lost its status as a municipality and ceased operations completely in 1985. Today, Sulphur Springs remains an agricultural community with few permanent residents; however, it retains some notable aspects of its history such as its independent government and downtown plaza which are still used today for civic events.

Sulphur Springs was founded in 1879 as a railway station on the Texoma Railroad. It became a boomtown in the late 19th century due to its copper and silver mines, which were also used for manufacturing goods such as ammunition and automobiles. The town's heyday came after World War II when it became an important center for defense manufacturing and aerospace research. In recent years, Sulphur Springs has been losing its importance as a commercial center and its population has declined by half since 2000.
