In 1892, the first gun sling in Sugar Land was made. It was a simple affair - an old belt buckle with a piece of metal fastened to it. Sugar Land, Texas is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 165,711 at the 2010 census, making it the second-most populous city in Harris County after Houston. Sugar Land is also home to Rice University and other large universities and research institutions. The city's nickname "The Jackie Robinson City" refers to its historical role in African American baseball history. Sugar Land was founded by planters as a small community on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present day downtown Houston. In 1836, sugarcane growing operations began here and soon became an important part of the local economy. Sugar Loaf Hill, named for a nearby hill that had high sugar cane yields, served as an early commercial district and eventually became one of Sugar Land's most distinguishing features. In 1909, Houston annexed parts of what are now Sugar Land and Montgomery County while still maintaining jurisdiction over these areas under its own laws; this area today forms much of easternHouston along with some smaller neighborhoods within Montgomery County such as Spring Branch and Silver Lake in Sugarland proper. What is now Brazoria County was added to Houston in 1910 via annexation from Galveston County (Galveston Island - see History section below). The annexation has been challenged by Texans who maintain that Brazoria should have been included in Houston because it shares borders with both counties - although animosity between county officials has since dissipated somewhat since then! Houston annexed portions of Montgomery County including what is now Sugar Land because it felt that those areas were being left without proper development due to their proximity to Austin which was becoming increasingly major financial center during this time frame (see Annexation timeline below). However, many residents in these newly annexed areas voted against incorporation intoHouston until about 1920 when they too saw potential benefits for their development (growth) if they joined forces with their new neighbor(s). This led to Sugarcreek Township being formed out of all but unincorporated portions of Montgomery and Brazoria Counties east OF Beltway 10 prior to 1920 when state law mandated incorporation into cities or townships where more than 50%of population resided according to US census data at that time! The Jackie Robinson story begins here... According to legend, Jackie Robinson first played ball for the hometown Humble Giants club before moving up through the minor leagues where he helped lead his team from Tulsa Oilers farm team all the way up until he made his debut for Philadelphia Athletics big league affiliate Baltimore Orioles on April 12th 1946 – just two weeks after integration into Austin public schools! For years thereafter Jackie Robinson & Company would hold annual workouts & exhibitions at Memorial Stadium across town from Humble Giants’ home field; locals would call these “the pre-season games” leading up until 1954 when AL teams started usingMemorial Stadium rather than travelling across town! Texas Rangers Hall Of Fame player Joe Morgan attended one such preseason game playing shortstop for Humble Giants on October 14th 1951 despite not yet having achieved professional status – only days after black players were allowed interracial relationships with white women (& later men) officially legalized throughout TX!!! Allyson Richards came down from NYC that night disguised as a white woman visiting her dad who lived just outside Plainview so she could attend!! After games like this & others around TX thrutout this period things slowly started changing… Today Sugarland continues its proud tradition as one of America's most racially diverse cities – hosting events/meetings related both nationally & internationally spanning various faiths including Islamس& Hinduism π& Christianity etc.; many traditional black cultural dances/rituals still take place here annually adjacentto Rodeo Drive ḾḽḨḩế !!

The city of Sugar Land, Texas was founded in 1835 by James Fenton and his wife Eliza. The original name for the city was "Fenton's Fort." In 1846, the city was renamed to honor General Sam Houston. The first post office in Sugar Land opened in 1848. The city has since grown to include a population of over 165,000 people.
