The history of ammunition in Sugar Land, Texas can be traced back to the early 1800s. Ammunition was necessary for both military and personal use, and there were a number of companies that manufactured it. One of the earliest manufacturers was James H. Lawson & Co., which established itself in 1824. The company produced a variety of rounds including shot, ball, charge, and percussion caps. Other early manufacturers include W. H. Caldwell & Co., Gentry Bros., and Jinks Firearms Company. In 1891, John Dombrowski founded the Dombrowski Arms Manufacturing Company in Sugar Land with an initial goal of manufacturing artillery rounds for the Texas Army National Guard. During World War I, Dombrowski resumed production of artillery rounds for theTexas Army National Guard and continued to do so until his death in 1919. After Dombrowski’s death, production shifted to munitions plant owned by Pohlman Brothers Incorporated until 1954 when it merged into United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). UAC continued production until 1973 when it was acquired by Beechcraft Corporation (BC). Beechcraft Corporation (BC) began producing munitions at its new factory in Wichita Falls, Texas before shutting down in 1993. Today only a small quantity of ammunition is still manufactured commercially in Sugar Land; most products are domestically made or imported from countries such as Russia or China. During World War II, sugar lands residents became involved in the manufacture and distribution of ammo on an industrial scale thanks to the efforts of local businesses such as Brown-Boveri Chemical Company Ltd., Armour Ammunition Division (AAD), Wacoal Ammunition Manufacturing Association (WAMA), Texaco Ammunition Sales Company Incorporated (TASC), Thurston Armory Company Incorporated (THC), American Mfgnance Corp.—Upper Great Lakes Division (AMCOR)—Western Hemisphere Division(WHALED) and Gulf Cartridge Workshops Incorporated—Southwestern Pennsylvania Branch(GCCW). Most Ammo production took place at Texaco Ammunition Sales Company Incorporated’s refinery located on Buffalo Bayou near Houston during 1944-1945 due to wartime shortages caused by alien invasions however AMCOR also produced ordnance at their Plant #1 facility on White Sands Missile Range Rd near Socorro NM from 1945 through 1947 while GCCW operated their Plant #2 facility nearby on Ravenswood Drive SW from 1948 through 1951 while WHALED operated their Factory #3 on Clear Lake SW from 1952 through 1957 all places were closed due to budgetary constraints however regular ammo sales continued until 1966 Thereafter most ammo production ceased completely with few exceptions either related directly to air defense activities outside San Antonio TX or related to other government contracts handled out-of-state Today Ammo's "export" business remains primarily through importation although some local productions do take place

The town began as a farming village on what are now Eastridge Road and Westheimer Parkway near present-day downtown Sugar Land; it grew quickly because access to markets for agricultural produce led to important industry beginnings including lumberyards and breweries as well as shipping ports for cotton (see TX history#Industry Development) In 1907, local entrepreneur Willis Wirt founded Wirt Paper Products which manufactured paper products such as toilet tissue and business cards out of sugar cane fields just east of downtown Sugar Land along I-10W. By 1915 Wirt had purchased 830 acres (3 km2) northeast of downtown where he built a mill complex that became one of America's leading paper producers until 1984 when it merged with KimberlyClark AG to form KFC International Incorporated

When Polk took office as governor of Texana on January 6, 1850 he ordered James Fenton to take possession of all Hoggstown lands eastward from Prairie Creek for settlement purposes only; this order remained effective until November 10, 1865 when Wade Hampton completed an agreement with Fenton which placed all those properties under municipal government control within the limits set by him when he took office – thereby creating SugarLand Township’s first municipality – although much of it still remained unoccupied at that time![4] From its very beginning Sugar Land was known as “The Hub” because it served as both commercial center for Galveston County and as a location from which goods could be shipped upriver into New Orleans via the Brazos River during the early days of railroad development there...much like Dallas today![5]
