Stephenville, TX is a small town in the Williamson County seat of Midlothian. It was founded in 1879 by John Stephenson and named for him. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was incorporated in 1907. Stephenville's first weapon flashlight was made by the Higgins Manufacturing Company, which also produced radios and other electrical equipment. In 1922, Stephenville abruptly closed its doors after only three years due to economic difficulty. However, within a few years, the Stephensons reopened their business and continued production of firearm flashlights until their death in 1967. The original Stephenville arsenal was destroyed by fire on July 4th, 1980. However, local resident Don Grimes rebuilt it using salvaged materials and began producing new firearms again that year. The arsenal has been continuously operating since then with nearly 100 current members active at any given time. Today the arsenal produces a wide variety of firearms including shotguns, rifles, handguns, muzzleloaders and more! However, recent expansions have also included new restaurants and bars along with plans to develop a large convention center which would house both local businesses and larger conventions/events. There are also plans to build a new high school which would serve as an annex to Stephens County High School on Highway 281 north of town.

Stephenville was founded in 1881 by Treaty of Paris pioneers, William F. Caldwell and his brother-in-law, James K. Shoup. The town was named in honor of Ulysses S. Grant, who had been the president of the United States at the time of its founding. It quickly became a thriving center for cattle and agricultural production, with a population of around 100 residents in 1890. In 1919, Stephenville annexed the neighboring town of Floresville, creating a merged community with a population of almost 900 people total.
