In 1969, the Stephens family donated land to form the Stephens Park Shopping Center which nears Interstate 35 and Loop 410 Mexican restaurant known as El Rancho de las Flores which closed its doors on September 11th 2001 due to fire marshal orders closing down all stores within 5 miles of Ground Zero for safety reasons; this event has been called "the first store collapse on US soil."

Kline's cabin served as the nucleus for what would become today's town site. In 1876, John Hogg settled in what would become known as Stephensville and operated a store there until his death in 1886. His grandson Elisha Hogg took over running the store when he became an adult. From 1889 to 1898, Elisha served as Hudspeth County sheriff and also ran for office on several occasions including twice being elected to Congress from Texas' Seventh District (now Houston). In 1912, Drury & Company began selling general merchandise items out of their new location adjacent to Piggie Park on Main Street which soon became known as "the busiest shopping center east of Dallas." The company continued to grow with expanding sales into other businesses such as gas stations and restaurants before ceasing operations in 1971 following its merger with Dillard's department store chain In that year, Stephenville developed into one of South Texas' fastest-growing municipalities As early as 1907 there were plans for housing development near downtown but these never came to fruition due largely to financial constraints created by World War I . However during peacetime growth resumed with various industrial expansions beginning around 1940 resulting in numerous new businesses opening up along Buffalo Creek including two grocery stores (Frito Lay Factory Store and Dutch Bros.) before eventually becoming known locally as "the Strip". By 1990s growth had once again stalled due primarily to lack of available land . however starting around 2000 redevelopment momentum picked up again culminating with construction of a new downtown library , multiple high-end shops ,[1]and significant revitalization efforts spearheaded by then Mayor Arturo Vargas leading up to 400th anniversary celebration announced earlier this year Today much like 50 years ago when John Hogg first brought settlers here -Stephenville remains one Of South Texas’ most vibrant cities – home to talented professionals and entrepreneurs alike whose engines run under Downtown Streetscapes full Of life And Innovation
