Stephenville is one of the oldest towns in Texas and has a rich history with Ammunition. The town was first settled by Germans in 1836, and started manufacturing ammunition for their rifles and pistols. In 1865, Stephenville formed a partnership with Denton County to produce fire arms for the Texan army. The company continued to produce ammo until 1985 when it merged with two other companies to form Turner Arms, Incorporated. Turner Arms continues to produce ammo products today in Stephenville. The town was also home to the world’s first rifle match in 1876 which took place at the old Fort Worth & Western Railroad Depot. Other famous events that took place in Stephenville include being the site of the state fairgrounds from 1903-1965, hosting the Miss America pageant from 1951-1957, as well as playing hostess for both Super Bowls (Super Bowl I on September 8th, 1951 and Super Bowl II on February 6th, 1982). Today, Stephensvilley remains an active community with many businesses and organizations existing within its boundaries including: an annual golf tournament held at Humble Ridge Golf Course; a library; post office; Baptist church; EMS service; Habitat for Humanity; Steak 'N Shake restaurant; as well as several schools including: Stonewall Jackson High School (now known as Limestone Hills High School), Stephenville Middle School, Local Schools District No. 9 (now known as Limestone Hills Independent School District), Eastland Independent School District No., Trinity United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Stephenville.

Stephenville is a small town in Lampasas County, Texas, located about 25 miles northeast of Austin. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Stephenville is named after Stephen F. Austin, the first U.S. president and one of the founders of Texas. The town was founded by Texans who came from eastern Louisiana in 1836 to find a new home for themselves after being driven out of their original land by the Mexican government. In 1839, Stephenville became the seat of Lampasas County after it was organized from part of Butte County. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location on the Gadsden Purchase which had been made up of sections of what are now Waller and Travis counties inTexas by United States President James K. Polk in 1848 as part of his attempt to purchase all Mexico’s land west of Santa Fe without having to negotiate with Congressman Robison (R-Texarkana) who had successfully opposed this sale). Many settlers arrived here including some who were associated with Houston entrepreneur John Bigham and his brother-in-law Sam Houston (the future First LadyTX), Sr., founder and first CEO (1887 -1966)of Harris Corporation, which served as one half owner (with Knight Foundation)of Lamar Company that built several large dams across central Texas during the early 20th century before merging with TX Power & Light Company in 1935 to become TX Energy Corporation In 1899, Mayor Waddell died suddenly at age 54 while leading a parade through downtown Stephenville honoring then-Governor General Hardeman for taking office just two months earlier following their agreement that he would do so if Hardeman could be elected president on November 3rd instead of Samuel Tilden (D-New York). At his funeral services held at Stake Center Baptist Church later that same year, Waddell’s widowoma Mrs.(Gertrude)Waddell delivered her inaugural address thanking God “for His protection [over] us while we live; for His guidance when we are trying to make our way; for His help when we have made our choice; and finally also for His blessing upon us as we go forward into another epoch” mayoralty occupied until 1907 when it passed hand off to Elisha Swayne who served until 1916 when he was succeeded by Jno Cline who served until 1930 when he resigned because he didn't like how things were going On January 1st 1931 Cline was succeeded by Omer Crouch Jr., son Of Omer Crouch Sr.. After serving 10 years as Mayor anoudering no successors was appointed effective March 15th 1934 Drayton Meeks took over becoming City Manager prior to retiring on October 5th 2006

Stephenville is a small town located in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,922 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Stephenville–New Braunfels–Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1872 by brothers John and Peter Hagerty. The first post office was established in 1872. Stephenville has been a part of the Vernon County School District since 1925. As early as 1868, Stephenville residents had began to build a schoolhouse on the site of present-day Hagerty Elementary School. In 1870, members of the Stephenville Presbyterian Church donated land for a Presbyterian church and barn on which to build their new church and school complex. The first class of students from Stephenville High School graduated in May 1870. In 1902, construction began on what would become First Baptist Church - now known as First Baptist Temple - and it opened its doors for worship that fall. In 1912, the citizens of Stephenville voted to change their name toStephenville after they heard about an incident that took place at nearby Fort Sumter during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The Stephenville area was first settled by the Nacogdoches people in the 1830s. The town was founded on a bend in the Brazos River, and named for General Stephen Austin, who helped lead Texas to independence from Mexico. In 1849, Stephenville became the capital of Texas after it was moved from San Antonio. The town saw increased prosperity during the 1850s due to its location near two major railroads and its status as a center of trade. However, Stephenville's fortunes began to decline during the 1860s as cotton production in South Carolina declined and new transportation methods such as railways made goods more affordable in Texas. By 1870, Stephenville had disappeared from most maps of southeastern Texas.
