As one of the youngest towns in Stephenville, Texas, the history of airguns dating back to before World War II is tightly woven into the fabric of town life. One of the first airguns to be manufactured in Stephenville was a model named the “Ten-Bolt” which was created by Mr. John Denton in 1939. This rifle featured ten barrels that could fire from a single magazine. It was very popular with local farmers and hunters who used it for target shooting and varmint hunting. In 1951, Mr. Luther Nolen bought an unmodified Ten-Bolt from Mr. Denton and began manufacturing his own airgun products under the name, “Luther Nolen’s Air Guns” (later changed to simply, “Luther Nolen’s Gun Company”). This company continued to produce quality firearms until 1974 when it merged with another company named National Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (NAMCO) to form what is now known as American Outdoor Sales Incorporated (AOSI). During this time period, AOSI produced some of the most iconic firearms brands in America including Winchester®, Remington® and Savage® rifles. In 1984, AOSI merged with Browning Inc., creating what is now known as Browning Arms & Ammo Incorporated (BA&AI). At BA&AI we continue to produce world-renowned firearms such as the Ruger® AR15 rifle and Colt™ Frontier models!

Stephenville was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The town was named for General Stephen Armstrong, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as president of Texas. The town grew rapidly during the 1870s and 1880s, thanks to its natural resources and access to railroadroads. By the turn of the century, Stephenville had become a major cotton center and boasted a population of around 2,000 people. However, during the Great Depression, many residents lost their jobs and income opportunities. As a result, Stephenville lost itseconomic stability and declined sharply in population over the next few decades. In 1990, however, the town regained some of its former prosperity through annexation by nearby Lubbock.
