Stafford, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is located in Johnson County. The population was 5,551 at the 2010 census. Stafford was founded by Anglo Americans in 1859 as a small community on the banks of the Brazos River. It became a ghost town after railroads bypassed it and farmers stopped traveling to the town because of its lack of water available from underground wells. In 1925, Stafford was renamed for General Robert E. Lee after he led Confederate forces during the American Civil War and in 1957, its name was changed back to Stafford after his death. The first post office opened in 1859, and mail service continued until 1907. The cotton fields that once dominated Stafford’s economy have now been replaced by subsistence agriculture and ranching as the mainstay of its economy since World War II. Today, many people work on nearby farms or ranchers provide jobs for their families while still residing in Stafford throughout the year. The history of Stafford goes back to 1859 when white Americans founded a small community on what is now called Creek Road about two miles west of present-day downtown Stafford (the creek has long been dry). The community grew quickly due to its location atop high ground near major transportation routes connecting Mexico City with San Antonio and Austin de Alamo cavalry barracks site across the Brazos River (now part of Midtown Houston). By 1865, most residents had left for better opportunities elsewhere within Johnson County or beyond due to conflicts with local Native American groups over land ownership rights (see History#Creek Road Massacre). What remained of this original community built a few houses before moving out again around 1870-1872 when new homes were being built on higher ground just east of present day First Street between Third and Fourth Streets; these later homes are now known as Old Main House East (formerly Third Street Elementary School) which fronts onto Present Day Second Street/. At some point early 21st century resident Jeffery Sowell discovered an old steam locomotive parked Local 4252 south side road from Current Time east side road not too far from current day Patton Avenue entrance driveway[1]. With little other evidence remaining about this locomotive save photos he took during restoration efforts[2], speculation began surrounding who may have operated it during those years[3]. After careful research including contacting several librarians familiar with railroad activity in that area at that time,[4] Jeffrey determined it likely operated under Southern Railway Company #851(I&M Railroad Co.) one mile southwest of today's Patton Avenue entrance driveway along former US 35W SSW just past where Current Time intersects McGee Drive 2ndStreet intersection[5]. A short drive north along McGee Drive reveals another significant discovery; an abandoned cotton gin/weighbridge located at rear end next to modern day home lot line next door to Schmidt's BBQ restaurant[6]; this structure likely served as weighbridge for items being transported down Johnston Fork Brazos River then upriver via Southern Railway Company #851(I&M Railroad Co.) during earlier period when US 35W crossed Johnston Fork near present day Patton Avenue entrance driveway[7]

Stafford, Texas is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,829 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County and home to Fort Worth Army Base. In 1836, General Sam Houston established Fort Worth as the eastern terminus of hisTexas Trail System and named it for Robert E. Lee's brother-in-law, James Stafford. Stafford was part of White Settlement District No. 2 which included present day Stafford and unincorporated parts of Rockwall and Wise counties east of Interstate 10 until after Mobile Bayou drained those areas in 1884 when all non-Indian land within their boundaries became part of Mobile County. The first post office in Stafford was established on April 12, 1837 by J.M.. Hinton with A., B., C., D., F., G., H., I., K., L.," M(), N(), O(). On January 1st 1870 John Witherspoon opened the first store in town; he continued to do so until 1880 when he sold out to Wm Starkweather who also operated a mercantile business there from1893 until his death in 1924." In 1865 Drury built the first cotton gin in this area; it still stands today at what is now Third Street and Elm Street corner just outside OfTown limits! In 1876 Mrs Elizabeth Cook organized a school district which included present day Stafford Township - she served as its first superintendent! Mrs Cook also donated land for a public square that later became known as "Cook Square." On July 15th 1906 an act was passed providing for township incorporation; operations began on September 3rd 1907! From 1902 until 1959 both Rockwall/Wisecounty School Districts were located within Stafford Township (later renamed ROCKWALL) while portions of Wise County (east side) formed northwest section called "WISE COUNTY". This arrangement changed upon the admission of Dallas into TX on November 4th 1959 which provided for cities within TX to be designated byGovernments rather than through Township formation!!! After years of wrangling over annexation requests from Dallas properDallas annexed Stafford on December 14th 1961 effectiveJanuary 1st 1962!!!!!
