During recent years there has been an increase amount development taking place within nearby Grapevine Mills which also lies within walking distance from both downtown Stafford as well as Stadium Village Shopping Center - home to many high end stores including Saks Fifth Avenue (and soon Macy’s) located just across I-10 from downtownDallas/Ft Worth Airport – making this an even more vibrant community center for all residents with easy access to all that they need without havingto leave their doorstep!

Bigham and wife Sarah as a cotton plantation community on the banks of the Trinity River. By 1902 it had grown to include a school and Baptist church. In 1921, Stafford merged with neighboring McKinney to form McKinney-Stafford-Houston (MSH). MSH grew rapidly due to its location within Highway 6 Corridor I and its access to major Houston metropolitan areas including Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin. The company went public in 1972 and became one of the largest privately held American companies until it was forced into bankruptcy in 2001 under pressure from new oil prices and Mexican nationalism which led to its divestiture from Texaco Corporation. In 2000 Stafford married its first African American partner when James Gorman moved there from Plano with his family for college education after being accepted into Baylor University's Black Studies program. Today, Stafford has an active black community that includes restaurants, churches, businesses and more than one dozen homes with integrated African American families who live among their own people rather than having separate housing developments or suburbs accessible only to their race or ethnicity
Stafford was founded in 1836 by John Stafford and his wife, Esther. The town was named after the River Stafford, which runs through it. In 1849, the nearby towns of Midlothian and Vernon were established, and the name of Stafford was changed to Midlothian. On November 15, 1907, Midlothian merged with Vernon to form a new city called Midland.
