Stafford, Texas is a small town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settler in Stafford was David Goodloe in 1851. The town was founded by James Hogg on November 5, 1858. He named it after General John A. Stafford who had fought against Mexican forces during the American Civil War. In 1865, the name of Stafford changed to Goodloe when a post office was established there and mail from that location arrived under that name until 1893 when it changed again to Stafford due to confusion with nearby Post Office Goodloe (now Round Rock). In 1892, Confederate Major General Braxton Bragg visited Stafford and ordered all Union soldiers must leave immediately or face rape and pillage. This event is celebrated annually as "Braxton's Rebellion" in Stafford. In 1911, the townsite of Goodloe was annexed by Stafford and renamed for Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Hogg (1837-1911) who served as Cameron County sheriff from 1889 until his death in 1911 while still serving in the Confederate military service at Fort Sam Houston south of San Antonio de Bexar along Mexico Border where he had been stationed since 1861 during the American Civil War as a colonel commanding an artillery battalion with 1st Brigade Texas Legion Infantry Regiment #9 under command of Brigadier General Edwin Mifflin Terry US Army (Retired). Lt Col Hogg's remains were interred here at birthdate unknown located adjacent to current day Highway 183 which runs through Goodloe village site east of Main Street which leads into downtown Warwick Hills northward past modern day Graham High School Hospital complex before terminating at IH-35 just west of Interstate 35 en route to Temple University near Brownsville . By deed dated May 2nd 1915 from wife Letitia Jarrell theretoat home frontrewith 1/2 acre lot adjoining White Settlement Road close within 500 feet limits now occupied by Mrs Lillie Nolen later known as Leslie Rd & Hutchison Rd thenceforth calledGoodloe Village Site & main street continuing thru same name wards off said addition made to township but no dwellings erected therein except perhaps one story brick school house built about 1914 used as such subject to zoning compliance regulations then & now

Stafford, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,815 at the 2010 census. Stafford was founded in 1881 by settlers from Virginia and named for General Robert E. Lee. It became a city in 1907 and officially adopted its current name of Stafford on December 2, 1907. The first post office opened in Stafford on July 3, 1875. The town was platted on December 6, 1881 by James Fenton and Wm. Hockaday with the intention to serve as the eastern terminus of the newly created Hudspeth County line that would include present day Austin and all of Travis County (later Williamson County). When Texans approved the annexation of Portland two days later, Stafford became part of what became known as "the Lone Star State." In 1907, when Austin became an independent city and added additional land to its boundaries east of Interstate 35W (now I-35), Stafford's location withinAustin made it an ideal candidate for becoming its new municipal center. On December 2nd 1907, the City Council unanimously voted to adopt the name "Stafford" after General Robert E. Lee who had donated land for the new city limits located just south of downtown Austin on then East Side Boulevard. Since then Stafford has been home to many businesses including: Kuykendall's Restaurant which opened its doors in 1966; First Baptist Church which served as both a church and community center until 1924; Pritchett Tire & Auto Service which relocated from Houston in 1967; Gibbs Glass store built in 1984; Tomlinson's BBQ restaurant whichopened its doorsin 1995; BJ's Wholesale Grocery moved into their current building adjacent to First Baptist Church in2001; Home Depot opened their doors here in 2005; Joe's Pizza also began operations herein 2006 followed by several other stores over time including Lowe’s Hardware Store (2007), Target(2008) JCPenney(2009) Sears(2010) Bed Bath & Beyond(2011), Dollar Tree(2012) ect.. One important development that occurred during this time period were two major road projects: The original Memorial Drive Bridge Project completed in 1963 replaced an earlier causeway crossing Missouri River upstream from present day Dallas/Fort Worth Airport while also widening said road beyond what had originally been planned - making it now one of only a few streets remaining without any major infrastructure improvements since those days - and Then again during Hurricane Ike when entire northsideofthecitywas blockaded forcing residents along Memorial Drive westward towards downtown whereupon efforts were made to reopen Memorial Drive once traffic conditions improved but failed due to high winds caused destruction throughout most portionsoftown . On October 15th 2013 local legend Johnnie Cochran took his final bow before beginning his long career as Grand Ole Opry singer at Sam Houston Coliseum before retiring following 50 years performing exclusively within TX
