During World War II, Southlake served as an emergency airfield for nearby Fort Worth during aerial bombardment missions over Japan . Afterward, many businesses took advantage of reconstruction opportunities which began in Southlake after 1945; two examples are Coca Cola Bottling plant and FM Radio Corporation which created jobs throughoutSouth Lake while also renovating many old buildings into new live-work dwellings beginning in 1951 . The late 1960s brought much change to Southlake when portions north of I-20 including Old Hickory Road were annexed by Dallas creating a new city limits beyond which no development could take place without taking up valuable land east of I-20 or destroying valuable neighborhoods along Old Hickory Road

Southlake is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 17,868 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Tarrant County after Fort Worth. Southlake is located on the Red River of Chisholm County and bounded by Sherman to the north, Arlington to the east and south, Frisco to the west and north, and Plano to the northwest. The site of present-day Southlake was occupied by hunter-gatherers for over 10,000 years before humans arrived around 6500 BC. The first European settlers arrived in 1836 when Hugh Myrick founded what would become Fort Worth. By 1860, most of Dallas had been annexed by Fort Worth; however, much of Tarrant County remained unincorporated until 1912 when it was included in the new municipality of Arlington Heights. In 1872 Denton entrepreneur John Sayers organized a group to purchase 640 acres (250 ha) around what would eventually become Southlake from David Hackett Locke for $10 per acre (4 hectares). A year later Sayers subdivided his land into blocks that were sold off with an initial payment plus interest payable every two years. On July 1, 1880 Charles Goodnight purchased 513 acres (236 ha) adjacent to that already developed into what is now Southlake Village Goodnight named his community after himself – "Goodnightville" – which still stands today as one of few commercial areas within town limits since annexation date has long passed. In 1902 Arthur Hargrave donated 503 acres (241 ha) northeast of Goodnightville towards erection of a high school campus; this land was eventually dedicated as North Park Circle . In 1907 Harry Reidey donated 333 acres (96 ha), lying entirely within present day Southlake Village boundaries east and southeast of Loop 610 Expressway/Highway 183 - which became known as Reidey Ranch - for use as a deer hunting preserve . This area became known as North Park Circle . Beginning in 1916 various developers began purchasing parcels along Highways 183 and 610Expressway/Highway 183 southward from Loop 610 for use as farmland or other rural development projects; accordingly some sections currently constituting Southlake have their original routing such as Uptown Drive being routed parallel to I-35W instead while others were rerouted including sections becoming current Spring Creek Drive being routed due east from Highway183 concurrent with I-635 beyond downtown Dallas proper
