Southlake is a small town in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,781 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and its surrounding counties. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell discovered oil drilling operations being done on land owned by Major James Hogg near what is today NorthPark Mall in Southcenter Circle; this led to Hogg suing Ewell for wrongful imprisonment which ended up leading to an agreement whereby General Johnston allowed Hogg exclusive rights to drill for oil east of Fort Worth while Johnston stayed behind with troops guarding the west bankage bordering San Antonio County (the so-called “Fort Worth Limit”).
