Southlake is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,719 at the 2010 census. The largest city in Gregg County, it is the county seat of Southlake and part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Southlake is located on the Brazos River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Climate Classification: Cfa). The first settlers in what is now Southlake came from Illinois in 1839. In 1850 they were followed by others from Kentucky and Tennessee. A post office called "South Lake" was established in 1856, but it was discontinued in 1861 because of the American Civil War. The name "South Lake" again became a post office in 1865 when railroad lines were built through Gregg County. In 1893 the community of Southlake merged with that of Rocksville to form what is today known as Southlake-Rocksville. In 1901 local artist Johnnie Moore started painting outdoor scenes around his house on White Sands Drive which soon became popular with residents and tourists alike. Moore's home still stands today and can be visited for tours every day during daylight hours. His art has been preserved at US 76 Museum (near present-day IH-10 Exit 249) since 1978! There are also many interesting historical events happening each year here like Pioneer Days or Augustfestivals that bring people together to celebrate life experiences unique to their region - whether it be music concerts or Street Fair type activities! The city government changed hands several times over its history before finally being taken over by the current incarnation effective November 1st, 2003 after years of planning by Mayor Bobby Sheppard who had served as City Councilmember since 1997 Some exciting news about this time includes plans for construction of new recreation facilities within town limits including an Olympic sized swimming pool which will make Southlake one stop shop for swim/diving enthusiasts!!!

Southlake is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 103,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Southlake is east of downtown Dallas and west of Arlington. The first recorded inhabitants were Native American hunters and gatherers who used the area for hunting deer, bear and other game during the early 1800s. In 1836, Colonel James Waco established what became known as Waco Station on the Trinity River near present-day Southlake. On October 31st 1836, Colonel Waco ordered his men to cross into Mexican territory and attack an indigenous village located about six miles southeast of present-day Southlake on Bandera Creek without warning them or giving them time to prepare. The indigenous village surrendered without resistance when they saw that there was no way for them to escape alive; this event is now recognized as one of the most famous battles in Texas history. In 1886, white settlers began arriving in what would become Southlake from Oak Cliff and other nearby communities following passage of a state law allowing settlement by non-Native Americans. By 1890, there were over 100 residents living in South Lake proper – all Anglo slaves – while only 10 people lived in rural areas surrounding it including Waco Station (now NorthPark). The town's first public building was a log cabin built by Methodist missionaries Alfred Swinehart and John Hite on land donated by local cattle rancher JB Clayton within sight of today's intersection of I-635/I-10 West & US Highway 183 North - now known as southpark drive - in 1892. A second log cabin was built two years later on land donated by John Denton opposite Interstate 635 & IH 35W at what is now northpark Drive & Old Busch Rd., just beyond today's southpark Crossing Road off I-635/I-10 West before exit 114A onto Loop 610 East (present day Old Hickory Rd.). A third log cabin also was built soon after which served as both schools’ gymnasiums until 1954 when construction began on what would become home court for many major professional teams over ensuing decades including the Mavericks (now Dallas Mavericks), Spurs (now San Antonio Spurs), Bulls (now Chicago Bulls) and Lakers (now Los Angeles Clippers). This growth led to increased traffic congestion around town which prompted annexation byDallas in 1907 with plans to suburbanize much of central TX but did not happen until much later because developers wanted more development sites close to their services instead In 1924 a group consisting mostly young Africans American purchased 8 acres northeast corner current day Klyde road SW from Jock Lofton along with future home fields including Rice University baseball stadium then Baylor football stadium currently used as Energy Fieldhouse between crosstown lanes EB inside Loop 610East loop 610West entrance] This purchase allowed African Americans access to some formerly white neighborhoods such as Spring Branch near Rosedale where they started housing projects until integration efforts ended segregation beginning late 1960s . In 1928 developer Harry Dent opened up what would be called "Dent Park" across from Municipal Stadium featuring large homespun trees complete with brick chimneys adjoined by lawn tennis courtsedged sidewalks serving up ice cream cones during summertime directly across street from original golf course clubhouse still extant today
Southlake, Texas is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 24,865 at the 2010 census. The Southlake area was founded in 1881 by J.D. Powers and P.F. Daugherty as a stop on the then-new Dallas–Fort Worth Railway; its name comes from nearby Lake Arlington (now part of Irving). The first post office in Southlake was opened in 1884. It closed in 1889 after several years of operation due to lack of customers and until 1902 when it reopened under the new name of Arlington Heights. In 1915, Arlington Heights annexed what is now Southlake Village to form one municipality; this annexation remains effective today as both municipalities have their own governing bodies and services provided by a single municipal government which is jointly funded by both entities. In 1949, NorthPark Mall opened in Southlake and quickly became one of the largest shopping malls in the country with over 1 million square feet (1009 m2) of floor space tenants including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Inc., Macy's Inc., Kleinfeld Bros., Steinbach Glass Company, LG Home Appliances, American Eagle Outfitters Inc., Kmart Corporation and Sears Holdings Corporation among others On January 1st 2006 Southlake became an incorporated city with its own mayor/council system along with other local government services such as education funding and zoning regulations
