Southlake, Texas is a small town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The town was founded in 1881 by a group of Methodists from Kentucky and named after Southlake Mission on the Llano River in present-day El Paso County. In 1907, Southlake became an independent municipality with its own government and school district. In 1948, Southlake merged with neighboring Arlington to form Arlington-SouthLake Consolidated School District No. 2. In 1969, the school district was abolished and absorbed into East Deer Independent School District #1; however, Arlington retained its own ZIP code (76205). Arlington's annexation into South Lake TX brought about some changes for residents: they were allowed to vote in municipal elections beginning in 1975 and began receiving mail ballots from their new county seat starting in 1982; also, much of their infrastructure such as water mains were replaced with more recent models when it became known that Arlington would be annexed again to South Lake TX within a few years. Today North Park Elementary serves students grades PreK-5 while Lakeside Middle School provides 4th through 8th grade education; Evergreen Christian Academy offers PreK-12education while Holy Trinity Catholic Schools offer K-12 curriculum. Additionally there are 3 high schools: Lakeside High School which provides prekindergarten through 12th grade education; North Park High School which provide 9th through 12th grade education; and East Deer High School which provides 13th thru 17th grade education
