Southlake is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 56,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Southlake is located on the missions Reach and Brazos River valleys. The area that now makes up Southlake was first settled by Mexican Americans in 1836 as part of Rancho de las Palomas y Montaña de los Tejas east of present-day Dallas. In 1858, John Pemberton founded Baylor University in what is now Baylor University Park in downtown SouthLake. A post office called Southend was established in 1865, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1907, a group of Methodist ministers from Fort Worth traveled to SouthLake to start a Bible school there which would eventually become Baylor University School of Theology and Religion (BULTRO). In 1911, Jesse Hinton homesteaded land off FM 620 just north of town and named it Hinton Prairie after his father-in-law Jens Christensen who had bought the land from Daniel Boone four years earlier. The community quickly developed around this new center with stores, churches and homes becoming available for sale. In 1915–16, the final section of I-10 between Dallas and Austin were finished routeing through central Tarrant County making travel much easier for people living near those cities rather than having to go far away or use secondary roads. This made hilly country along I-10 more accessible for farming and ranching operations that had long been restricted to high plains areas further south. As a result of thisroute change, many small towns throughout central Texas sprung up around I-10 intersections – some still extant today such as Midlothian (now Arlington), Garland (Garland Heights), Beaumont (Beaumont Enterprise) etc., while others such as Weatherford (now Tomball) became ghost towns almost overnight due to lack of access or alternative transportation opportunities outside metropolitan areas during these early years of Interstate Highway development

Southlake is a city in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Southlake is named after J. B. Southworth and it was first settled by Texans in 1836 as a small community on the south side of what is now Arlington Heights Avenue between Mockingbird Lane and White Oak Drive. In 1849, the town became known as "The Prairie Capital" when it became the site of the Texas Revolution's Battle of Arlington Heights. After liberation from Mexican rule in 1867, Southlake began to grow rapidly with new businesses being established near Arlington Heights Avenue and Interstate 10 (now Loop 410). By 1890, Southlake had become one of Dallas' most prosperous neighborhoods with over 100 businesses. In 1928, Southlake renamed itself for its then-city mayor James Ewing after his campaign victory over Mayor John Beaumont in that year's mayoral election. At that time, Dallas annexed much of Cameron County including South Lakeshore and other smaller towns within its boundaries which led to increasing competition between these two municipalities for development funds and resources. However, Ewing refused to give up his mayoral seat to Dallas because he felt that he could still make a difference as an elected official within his own municipality despite living outside of itrictly municipal boundaries. The town of Southlake, Texas was founded in 1879 by General John F. Smith and his brother-in-law, Colonel James A. Robertson. The town was named for General Smith's father, who had died in 1870. The first store in Southlake was built on the corner of Third Street and Haskell Avenue. In 1886, the first post office in Southlake opened and served until 1915. In 1907, the first school in Southlake opened and served until 1959. The population of Southlake increased from about 350 in 1880 to over 1,500 by 1910; however, it decreased to approximately 500 by 1920 due to a variety of reasons including World War I and the economic depression that followed the war. In 1950, Southlake became a city when it was annexed by Dallas.
