One important aspect of bullet production during this time was how much lead was used in each cartridge due to its importance for ballistics purposes. Southlake is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,192 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Southlake was Willard Caldwell, who arrived in 1836. Caldwell's father-in-law founded what would become the city on November 2, 1837 by donation from Judge J.C. Hargrave of San Antonio and other settlers near present day Georgetown Lake. This original town site included a millrace that still flows through the center of town today and a small cemetery dating back to 1839 which is also still extant today. In 1840, James Witherspoon opened a market on High Street (now US 183) in what is now downtown Southlake and became one of the early merchants in this new community. By 1865, when railroad construction began through Tarrant County (then called West Texas), Southlake had grown enough to incorporate as a city with its own government - an event that brought much distinction to the fledgling community including being named "the most beautiful place in Texas" by "The Telegram". In 1886, Southlake amalgamated with neighboring Richardson to form what would be known as Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area (). Southlake experienced some major growth during World War II as numerous munitions plants were established here including Northrop Grumman and Convair Air Force Base (later Fort Worth Air National Guard Base). After America entered World War II and production slowed due to rationing, many businesses closed or moved out during this time such as Koppersmetics plant shuttered after 1945 while Herman Miller products continued production until 1964; ABC Radio Products closed their doors following 1957; Bendix Corporation vacated their plant located along Elmendorf Rd./I-10 after 1957; El Paso Electric Company shuttered their Indianapolis factory following 1954 while Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company relocated operations from Arlington Heights into Fort Worth starting 1948 while Pillsbury Doughnuts relocated from Wichita Falls into Garland after 1951; Sears Roebuck & Co., Inc., successor company to Sears Department Stores merged with Roebuck's parent company Wacoal USA Incorporated on February 15th 1959 becoming Sears Holding Corporation.; finally Postmaster General Clements announced plans for an expressway bypassing town limits proposed by then Mayor Murchison which would have eliminated all local traffic except for mail truck service within town limits - eventually abandoned due to protests led by citizens over potential negative impacts onto social infrastructure like schools and hospitals
