In recent decades Southlake has regained some popularity as a center for arts and culture with new restaurants and galleries opening up around town as well as renovated landmarks like City Hall and Lakewood Methodist Church which are now popular tourist destinations themselves. In 2016 local elected officials announced that they would be working to annex portions of neighbouring Arlington into Southlake effective from 2020 onwards making it possible for more people living outside Richardson County to join their city council meetings without having to leave their homes.
