In 1870 City Council meetings were held at Morrell's Hotel which stands today on Main Street between Cadet Parkway and Greenleaf Drive across from Rice University Center (now Rice University) - this building would later be used as City Hall until it burned down in 1961. On March 2nd 1870 elections resulted in creation of 3 new wards: Northwest Ward (northwest corner of Main & Will streets), Northeast Ward (southwest corner of Main & Robertson streets), and Southwest Ward (southwest corner of Morse & Texas Streets). These wards would remain unchanged until 1959 when they were consolidated into one ward called SouthwestHouston through an amendment to the charter with a vote by referendum On December 5th 1907 city officials designated Church Hill Avenue as Dwight D Eisenhower Boulevard following President Franklin D Roosevelt’s visit to South HOUSTON on December 4th 1907 while he was campaigning for Texass Governor Bullock On October 6th 1914 local merchants formed League Against Union Discrimination which pledged not sell goods or services within 10 miles of any union meeting place without written consent from each member
