In 1961, Mayor John Connally named SouthHouston Park after Dr. James Meeks who had made significant contributions to health care reform and education opportunities for Hispanic residents inHumble County east of downtown Dallas/Fort Worth through his work with then Mayor Tom Bradley's Committee on Housing Development chaired by Congressman Lloyd Bentsen whose district included much ofSouthHouston which at that time extended all along Buffalo Bayou from Kingwood to Flower Mound to Richardson Heights northward into Midtown Dallas/Fort Worth neighborhoods including Spring Branch Park now part Of Rice University campus - Oak Lawn neighborhood - Downtown West Side Neighborhoods today include The Woodlands North Side Neighborhoods Today' include many homes built since before white flight began when most families left primarily due to oil-price spikes caused by Arab embargo & energy crisis

South Houston, Texas is a town located in Harris County, Texas. The population was 20,823 at the 2000 census. It is the second smallest municipality in Harris County and 8th smallest in Texas. South Houston's history began with the founding of what is now known as Brazoria County on November 3, 1836 by Captain John Brawley and settlers from Louisiana. In 1840, Brazoria County merged with Galveston County to form Harris County. In 1875, South Houston was designated as its own municipality after being annexed byHouston. As a result of annexation it lost some of its rural character but gained some new amenities such as a city park and sewerage system which has made it one of the most livable towns in Harris County. The current name for South Houston came about because when white Americans first started moving into this area they gave the Creek Indians the choice between Indian or White names - Creek naming customs differ greatly from European naming traditions so when white people named their new towns they chose "Houston" which means "place where God resides." This appellation stuck and still appears on many buildings and streets in town today
The city of Houston was founded in 1836 by the brothers Sam and John Houston. The city became an important center for cotton trade, becoming a major slave market. It was also the site of one of Texas' first massacres, the November 1837 Massacre of the Alamo. The battle ended with almost all of the Texans killed, including its commander, Antonio López de Santa Anna.
