South Houston is a city inHarris County, Texas, United States. The population was 24,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston metropolitan area. South Houston is named after General Sam Houston and was founded by settlers from San Antonio in 1836. The first European American settlement in what would become SouthHouston was made on October 25, 1836 by José de Cervantes and two others as part of the Santa Fe Expedition under Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton. They were looking for a route to send goods from Mexico City to New Orleans when they discovered an ideal site for a rancho near present-day Montrose Boulevard and Holcombe Street. From this location they began to build their Rancho Brazos y Milpas (Rancho Brazos and Milpas). In 1839 they added another piece of property - the RanchoHouston - which became one of Harris County's most valuable tracts of land. When Sam Houston arrived in San Antonio he immediately set about building his new commandery, called Baylor University College of Medicine or "the Military Academy". The first buildings were constructed on what is now North Main Street between where I-10 crosses State Highway 290 Today’s campus includes a library with over 100 years old holdings as well as classrooms, research labs, blocks from downtown with easy access to shopping and dining options all within walking distance! By 1850 Baylor had more than 1000 students enrolled with six faculty members including Samuel Huggins who later served as the fourth president of Baylor University before becoming Provost at Rice University Dr. Wm Dickey also served as Medical Superintendent during Reconstruction periods until his death in 1926 A&M Hospital opened its doors on December 1st 1865 making it one of only four public hospitals west of the Mississippi River during that time period! After several decades service within various military commands Texas Rangers exercised their right under martial law on February 15th 1901 when McKinley was sworn into office without any formal process or declaration from warranted government authorities !! On July 12th 1907 Mayor Clyde Moody proposed annexation byHouston but no action taken until 1912 when annexation proposal again received attention due to prohibitionist tendencies inside City Hall !! On January 2nd 1916 petition bearing 5362 signatures was presented to then Mayor Coke Matthews requesting annexation along with other cities seeking such recognition during that time frame ! No answer was given until 1917 when Approved Plan & Map Showing Annexation Was Received

South Houston, Texas is a city located in Fort Bend County, Texas. The population of South Houston was estimated at 105,815 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston metropolitan area. The City of SouthHouston was founded on November 3, 1836 by General Sam Houston and his men following their victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. The first post office was established in this town on December 1st, 1836. On July 8th, 1840, Brazoria County was created from what was then Fort Bend County and SouthHouston became its county seat. In 1846, a cotton gin and mill were built in SouthHouston by James Witherspoon & Sons after they took over the operation of the New Orleans Cotton Exchange Building that had been destroyed by a fire two years earlier. The mills produced cotton until 1865 when Reconstruction ended with the end of Confederate rule in America. In 1893 a hotel called the “Hawthorne” was built on Buffalo Bayou near Rice Road and it remains an active business today. On October 15th 1888 local citizens organized what became known as “the Cotton Belt Union League” to protest increased prices for cotton brought about by newly imported labor from Mexico which had replaced American workers during Reconstruction period. After experiencing significant economic loss due to this boycott efforts some merchants relocated their businesses to other parts of America during the early 20th century but many others still remain in SouthHouston today including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Grill which reopened its doors on June 5th 2019 after being closed for almost 10 years!
The area now known as South Houston was first settled in the early 1800s by Scottish immigrants. The area became a slave trading post during the 18th century, and its name is derived from Spanish explorer Antonio de la Hoz's 1699 visit to this part of Texas. In 1836, General Sam Houston led an army against Mexican forces at the Battle of San Jacinto, which ended the Mexican-American War. As a result of this battle, Texas became a U.S. state andHouston became one of its largest cities.
