The first school in Socorro opened in 1892 and was housed on what is now called First Street East between Main Street and Patton Avenue. A second school opened later that year on Second Street East between Patton Avenue and mainStreet East which served students until 1915 when schools were moved to the current location on Third Street east of Patton Avenue which served students until 1954 when they were moved to their current site on Brazos River Boulevard west of downtown Socorro.

By 1850, there were over 1,000 white people living inHouston County. The county seat was located at Tomball until 1889 when it moved to Pearland because of its strategic location near the railroad lines that connected Galveston with Dallas and Houston. From 1890-1912 Tomball was the only large town withinHouston County boundaries
The Socorro, Texas community was founded in 1851. The area now known as Socorro was first inhabited by the Wichita people. In 1851, a group of men and women journeyed from Wichita Falls, Texas to found a new town in the area. They named the town after their patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua. The town began to grow rapidly and soon had a population of around 100 people. However, due to the demands of trade and industry, the town eventually disbanded in 1870.
