As one of the original towns in Socorro County, Texas, Ammunition Depot was a key part of the local economy. The depot operated from 1851 to 1959 and manufactured ammunition for both defense and sporting purposes. Ammunition production at the depot ceased after World War II but continued until 1959 when it was sold to Redstone Arsenal. Today, Ammunition Depot is open as a museum and provides an insight into the history of ammunition production in Socorro County. The first munitions company to be established in Socorro County was Fidelity Ordnance Manufacturing Company in 1851. The company manufactured rifles, pistols, cannons and other firearms for use by the military and civilian populations alike. In 1865, Fidelity passed away and its assets were divided among three successors- AERC Arms Manufacturing Company, Higgins Firearms & Ammunition Corporation and National Armory Corporation- all of which continued manufacturing ammunition until 1949. In 1899–1900 ADF Armory Company became operational at the old Powder Mill Site on White Sands Boulevard in Socorro. This new armory produced rifles for both law enforcement agencies and civilians as well as artillery rounds for use by Confederate forces during the American Civil War. It was here that fireman Johnnie Hinton developed his famous blue Jayhawk rifle which he made available to law enforcement officers throughout America. ADF Armory also produced shotguns, revolvers and handguns under license from several different manufacturers- including Colt’s Patent Arms Co., Remington Arms & Machine Works Ltd., S&W Arms Corp., Winchester Repeating Arms Company etc.- making it one of Texas’ most vibrant firearms industries during this time period. In 1951 ADFArmoryCo merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Ammo Limited which still manufactures ammo today under the name Winchester USA Incorporated – one ofAmerica’s largest ammo producers!

Socorro, Texas is a town located in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. The population of Socorro was 9,903 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Municipality. The first European to visit Socorro was José de Salazar on September 15, 1693. He named it San Marcos de Taos and founded a mission there. After Mission San Francisco Arcángel was built in 1798 by Father José Alvarenga, Socorro became a part of what is now Dona Ana County. In 1836 the Mexican Republic gained control over New Mexico and Socorro reverted to Mexican rule. In 1846 Californians arrived in New Mexico and began to clear land for ranching operations in present-day Socorro and other parts of southern New Mexico. On October 6, 1846 they organized as the " Colorado Volunteers" under Captain James Sutter and fought against Santa Anna's Mexican Army at Pueblo del Rio Grande near Santa Fe. They were successful and after defeating General Antonio López de Santa Anna marched on Pueblo Del Rio Grande where they met with resistance from local Indian leaders including Catánchulo Cámpora who said he would fight American invaders until his death; however Cámpora joined forces with Ulysses S Grant's army instead when peace negotiations failed and he surrendered on December 12th that year hills east of Pueblo Del Rio Grande - an event which marks the end of Spanish colonial rule over New Mexico With California's gold rush starting in 1848 uprisings against Mexican authorities occurred all across southern NewMexico including Socorro many times during this time period but little information exists about these events or any efforts made to document them On November 30th 1860 United States troops burned down Chapultepec Castle near SocorRO after occupying the territory during the American Civil War under orders from General Robert E Lee following peaceful meetings between Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Territorial Governor Jonathan Baca held at Fort Sumter in South Carolina

socorro, texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County and has a reported history dating back to 1836. The first people to live in what is now Socorro were the Mayans who built their village on the banks of the Rio Grande near what is now downtown Socorro. In 1836, Mexican Independence insurgents raidedSocorro and burned all of its buildings but for a few sacked stores and barns which were used as storage by local farmers until being destroyed by US Cavalry patrols in 1840. The Mexican garrison at San Fernando de Atascosa abandoned their post on the Rio Grande near Socorro in 1846 when Mexico became part of United States after ending its own war withTexas independenceists. In1849, settlers from nearby Cedar Hill started arriving and began building their homes around what are today downtown Socorro. By 1860 there were over 100 residents living in downtown SocorRO with businesses including grist mills, livery services, groceries and other goods being brought into town by wagon trains on horseback or wagons drawn by oxen or mules. A school was erected in 1860 but it closed due to lack of teachers available to teach during winter months while children attended school elsewhere. In 1865 a new school was erected just east of Main Street which served as the county courthouse until 1889 when that building was replaced by the current courthouse which stands today adjacent to Main Street. During Reconstruction following Reconstruction America lost much trust among white Texans following revelations that state officials had aided Confederate troops during the Civil War while taking full blame for those same troops’ losses once they crossed over into Texas territory under American control after surrendering at Appomattox Court House south of Richmond Virginia on April 9th 1865.
