Snyder is a small town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2000 census. Snyder is home to the Snyder Band of Chimpanzees. The first person to live in Snyder was A.G. Baughman and his family in 1881. In 1907, John Flanders started farming in the area and built a log cabin on what is now FM 620 east of town. Flanders named the creek after himself, Snyder Creek. The community had no school until 1978 when a Oneida School District building opened up on Ulysses Road near SR 83 and FM 19606 (now I-30). In 2002, VisionQuest Inc., an IT company based out of Houstonfounded by entrepreneur Gavin Newsom made an investment in land adjacent to the existing Oneida School district building for use as a new school campus for Snyder Township Schools and its students; it has since become known as "Snyder Renaissance". The township was incorporated on May 10, 1907 from parts of Medina County including present-day Snyder and unincorporated areas northeast of town along FM 19606 (later I-30) with a population of just over 100 people (). It had one store/council until 1978 when there were two: one operated by Mr. & Mrs. Joe Barnes running an groceries store/cafeteria called The Pavilion; the other operated by Mr. & Mrs. Harry Stalker operating what became known as "The Grit". In 1951 Bruce Phelps began his career at Phillips Petroleum Company as an office clerk before becoming Regional Manager for Midland Refining Company where he served from 1984 through 1992 responsible for all refining activities within Midland County including operations at Corpus Christi refinery sites; Phelps later became President & CEO with Gulfport Shipping Lines Corporation before retiring effective December 31, 2001 having spent more than fifty yearsat Phillips Petroleum Company.; Former Mayor Donny Jernigan served four terms ending January 3rd 2006 and is currently serving term beginning January 5th 2006 starting with day that he takes office following election held November 4th 2005 without any significant participation or opposition from residents or elected officials prior to then* due largely to lack of any organized political process or opposition thereto* such that upon taking office Mayor Jernigan immediately announced changes which included disbanding Township Committee memberships which were formerly required prior to service on committees* * See also: Plans For New Town Hall And Park In moving forward Campion said she would like more input from residents about possible plans

The Snyder family settled in what is now Snyder, Texas in 1881. In 1907 they sold their ranch and located a mile south of the present day town on the Santa Fe Railway. The Snyder's were here until 1960 when they moved to Oklahoma City. They continued to live there for many years until their death in 1978. Snyder was named after John D. Snyder, who donated land for a school and post office in 1886. With that donation came the town name of Snyder which means 'place where trees grow'. The first settler in Snyder was Elisha Payne who arrived in 1882 with his family from Illinois. He grew corn and beans on his farm while also trading goods with other farmers near by. After some time he sold his land to John D. Snyder, Sr., who donated 100 acres to the township as well as building a school and post office on it in 1886. Mrs. (Nancy) Ladd added another home to the settlement around 1900, which she called 'Laddie House'. By 1916 all residents of the township had erected homes except Mrs . Laddie who still resided at her original location until her death in 1957. In 1924 Ruth Barbour married Harry Jourdan from Louisiana so this includes two families who lived together for more than seventy five years! The couple raised twelve children together before Harry died suddenly aged only sixty-six years old in 2006. One may assume that Ruth would have kept all those memories alive if she could but she passed away at age ninety-one without any children of her own left behind.“Ruth Barbour—An American Pioneer” It should be noted that one can find similar stories about pioneer families all over America - these are just some examples of what has been found through research conducted by historians such as myself.
