Snyder is a town in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. Snyder is located on the east bank of the Brazos River and borders Fort Worth to the north and Pampa to the south. Snyder was founded in 1878 by John Cavanaugh Snyder and his wife, Fanny Crosby Snyder. It first served as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Austin to San Antonio. The Snyder family operated a grocery store there until 1906. In 1916, they bought land near present-day downtown for $15 per acre (the price at which it would later be sold). They built what is now their home on that property in 1922. In 1929, Snyder met Fred Kapp who had just opened his first clothing store in Fort Worth; Kapp donated all of his profits from that store to start Snyder's Clothing Store Inc., which became one ofFort Worth's most successful businesses. The Snyders also purchased a small shopping center adjacent to their home in 1951 for $5 per acre (the site would later be developed into downtown). The city of Fort Worth annexed neighboring Brushy Creek village in 1955 but did not annex Snyder because its zoning did not allow stores larger than 7 stories high within limits prescribed by Fort Worth ordinance at that time. As Brushy Creek grew more affluent, it began annexing other villages until finally annexation occurred in 1984 when its population reached 2,500 people (). The death of John Cavanaugh Snyder Jr.—a rancher—in 1979 led to protests against plans by then-Mayor Tom Ladd to development along the riverfront due to concerns about possible flooding if large buildings were constructed there without Cowtown's consent or funding from officials representing that municipality. A citizens' meeting was held on October 5th 1980 and after much discussion an agreement was reached whereby Ladd would seek input from Cowtown residents before any approvals could be given for large developments along Texan Riverfront; this vote effectively ended any potential flooding threat around town should such projects become reality. The original building lot across from current day DPS Headquarters used by both City Hall & Ladd HQ still stands today with frontage on Elm Street

Snyder was a small town in Travis County, Texas, about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Austin. It is now a ghost town as the last resident left in 1961. The Snyder post office closed on December 15, 1960. The first settler in Snyder was John Snyder Sr., who arrived around 1836. He built a log cabin and started farming the land that today makes up part of the University of Texas at Austin campus. In 1865, J.D. Caldwell moved to Snyder from Waco with his family and founded Caldwell's Store and Mill on what is now US-183 near current day US-183A. In 1867, he married Anna Elmira Barnes; they had two children: Alonzo Barnes and Ida May Barnes Caldwell. From 1870 to 1880, Snyder served as clerk of peace for the Brushy Creek Indian Nation east of present day San Antonio; he also taught school there for one year before leaving to start his own business surveying land for cattle drives into central Texas. On November 1, 1860, John Crouch became the first person to live in Snyder when he bought 2 acres (0 km2) of land from Elisha Cooks; he named it Green Gables after his daughter who lived there while attending Moody Bible Institute in Wichita Falls, Kansas
The Snyder family came to Texas in 1836, settling in the town of Snyder on the banks of the Trinity River. In 1848, they founded what is now Wichita Falls and continued to grow their ranching and farming operation until 1907. In 1903, they sold their business to The Hicks Corporation and moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois.
