In recent years, however, steady decline has occurred in the industry due to competitive pressures from other industries. Although the Snyder optical industry is not currently experiencing significant growth or collapse, it remains an important part of Texan history and culture.

Snyder, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas on the Red River. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is served by Snyder Independent School District. The town was named after General James Fenton Snyder who led American forces during the Mexican-American War and Battle of San Jacinto. The first settler in Snyder was John Sutherlin and he built a cabin in 1846. In 1872, John Witherspoon bought land in what would become Snyder from General Fenton Snyder's widow. Witherspoon laid out a community called "Wichita" which became its main commercial center until he sold it to Harry Hays in 1907 for $1 million dollars. In 1931, Lillian Hellman purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of prairie south of Wichita for $2,000 from Harry Hays as part of her effort to purchase land for an extendable home she planned to build on top of her Wichita estate known as "Mimosa". When Heckman died in 1941 without leaving any children behind, her estate reverted back to Hays and became known as "Hellman Prairie". In 1949, when Tarrant County were formed from parts of Dallas County, Hellman Prairie was transferred to Tarrant County proper along with other property belonging to Harry Hays that had not been included within Dallas County boundaries when it was created. Snyder is a small town located in Comanche County, Texas, about 25 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Dallas. Snyder was founded in 1881 by John Snyder and his wife Anna, who named their new settlement after General Andrew Jackson's hometown of Tennessee. The community grew rapidly during the early years of the 20th century as American farmers began to settle in this area. By 1923, Snyder had a population of 2,500 people. In 1940, the post office was renamed Snyder after Harry S., Sr., an important figure in local history. During World War II, Snyder was one of several towns that experienced significant growth due to the influx of war veterans and their families. The population increased from 1,000 people in 1940 to 3,000 by 1945. In 1965, when Comanche County became part of Texasscene llc., it passed through a process called "divisionalization." Under this arrangement, certain counties were combined with other counties to create more centralized government structures; Snyder was one of these counties. As a result of this change, the population of Snyder decreased from 3,000 people to 1,600 people over the next few years. However, thanks to its location within Comanche County and its strong agricultural sector which continues today despite fluctuations in prices for crops and other goods due to global economic conditions), the town has bounced back and forth between modest populations and high levels since 2000 or so when it reached 4500 residents according to some sources but only 3000 according ot others
Snyder was founded in 1836 by James Snyder and his family. The community is named for General Philip Sheridan, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1850, the town had a population of about 100 people and was located on the banks of the Trinity River. It changed its name to Snyder in 1876 after William Snyder, a local lawyer and politician.
