Gun sights history in Snyder, Texas began with the founding of the town in 1881. At that time, riflemen from surrounding counties banded together to form the Snyder Rifle Company. The company built a detachment on the northwest corner of First and Main Streets, and began manufacture of rifles and shotguns. In 1902, the company was renamed the Snyder-Pate Rifle Company. In 1916, when Snyder was annexed into Dallas County, the company became part of the new county government. The following year, Dallas County established a gun range near downtown which allowed for sale and use of handguns by civilians. In 1928, when Dallas County merged with Collin County, Snyder-Pate Rifle Company ceased operations due to economic reasons. A few years later it was resurrected as a limited liability corporation known as Star Firearms Corporation (later Star Industries). Under this name, Star manufactured handguns and rifles until 1978 when it merged with Gold Eagle Ammunition Corporation to form American Outdoor Brands Incorporated (AOBC). Today's Gunsight History Museum is located inside of American Outdoor Brands Incorporated on East Dean Street in nearby Plano where you can learn more about local gun culture and its role in Texan history.

Snyder is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Dallas and 20 miles (32 km) east of Austin. The population was 9,813 at the 2000 census. Snyder is home to Baylor University, one of the largest universities in Texas. It is also the birthplace of current President Donald Trump and former Texas Governor Rick Perry. The community was founded on November 12, 1876 by George W. Snyder and his wife Martha Ladd Snyder as Snyderville after they bought 7 acres (2 ha) of land from James Hogg near what is now called MacArthur Boulevard and Valley Road in present-day Midlothian County. George W.'s brother John William Snyder also purchased land thereabouts in 1881, making it an agricultural village with a schoolhouse and two stores/cafeterias/grains handling business until 1886 when development began with erection of two churches—the First Baptist Church which served as a social center for residents before becoming a commercial institution built largely using slave labor; and the Second Methodist Episcopal Church which became both a religious center for local Methodists before becoming an educational complex serving students from nearby rural areas including Midlothian Academy (later Lamar State College), UST & Trinity Univeristy School District No 2 & Third Independent School District No 2 adjacent to each other on present-day MacArthur Boulevard just east of I-35W between Temple Drive NW & Elm Street NW; these institutions are still extant today with minor changes having occurred over time). Snyder is a small town in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. Snyder is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Snyder was George Washington Smith, who arrived in 1836. He cleared land and built a log cabin on the present site of Snyder on May 25, 1837. At that time, Snyder was located within the Austin area. In 1840, he married Martha Jane Hays and they began to farm in what is now Snyder. In 1846 they had their first child, Ada Jane Smith-Snyder. Their home still stands today and it has been used as a restaurant since 1978. In 1880 John Witherspoon founded a sawmill at Washburne Springs in present-day Williamson County; it became known as Witherspoon & Sons Sawmills and Cutters before being purchased by JT Parsons in 1907 and becoming JT Parsons Steel Company. The company employed over one thousand people when it went bankrupt during World War II due to production shortages caused by the war effort; its assets were sold to steel manufacturer Bethlehem Steel Corporation for $2 million cash only two years later). After World War II ended there were no new mills developed adjacent to Washburne Springs so few people moved into or near Snyder until after 1978 when restaurateur Donny Schmidt opened his casual eatery called Donny's Place which served regional Texan cuisine such as chili chicken dogs with gravy (a dish popularized by Schmidt) from an outdoor patio overlooks the creek that made up the town's namesake stream (the name "Snyder" comes from this). In 1990 ownership changed back to JT Parsons Steel Company but operations continued until 2006 when it closed down again because of lack of patronage due to economic recession then reopened under new management as an antique store/grocery store called Shopko’s farmed out operation until closing once again around 2011 having been vacant for six months prior thereto according to business records.;
