In 1959, Mrs. Beulah Axton established her own gun store called Axton’s Firearms & Ammo which became very successful due to its good customer service and lack ofregulation on the part of the government. On October 1st, 1993, Mrs Axton died after being shot by her husband who had obtained a permit to possess a firearm outside their home boundary while she was not present (She had previously attempted suicide with an unloaded pistol). Her son thenestablished his own gun store which continued success until 2007 when he moved out of state because he felt that he could not compete with his mom’s business type of operation (Axton’s Firearms & Ammo offered competitive prices as well as free ammo pickups). In 2009-2010, another shoot out occurred between two groupsof men involving shotguns when both sides believed that someone else might be trying to steal their weapons; no shots were fired however one man sustained significant injuries (He would later die from his wounds). Finally on November 3rd 2010 three gunmen entered Axton’s Firearms & Ammo shooting multiple people before leaving empty handed

Other pistols followed suit such as Beretta's 9x19mm Pistol which fired rounds up to 150 meters (500 feet). The name "Sherman" comes from Hernando de Soto's expedition that passed through this area in 1606. In 1881, when Smith and Waddell organized Trinity College in nearby Amarillo, they chose to locate their college west of Sherman on what would become known as Trinity Ridge. This decision shortened the distance between Sherman and Amarillo by more than two miles (3 km). On July 22nd, 1881, Marshall Custer died while scouting Indian Territory with General Sheridan during the American Civil War at Fort Worth Battlefield east of present-day Wichita Falls. Consequently, Sherman became capital city for Throckmorton County on December 8th of that year when it was moved from Wichita Falls to its current location within Throckmorton County limits following ratification of an act by the U.S. Congress named after General Custer which designated March 1st as county courthouse day under provisions made to commemorate his death at Fort Worth Battlefield

The town became a prosperous center for cotton farming and ranching, and its citizens were known for their strong work ethic and independent spirit. In 1955, Sherman was named the county seat of Taylor County.
