Sherman, Texas is a town in Reagan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,925 at the 2010 census. Sherman is located on the Brazos River and is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlers in Sherman were eight men who arrived from Missouri in 1827. They named their settlement "New Salem." The name was changed to "Sherman" after General William Tecumseh Sherman's visit to the area in 1867. The townspeople built a log courthouse and store in 1870, and a cotton gin and distillery were built in 1903. In 1907, Sherman incorporated as a village. It had a total population of 582 people by 1920. By 1950 it had grown to 1,925 residents. In 1951, the Eisenhower Administration announced its intention to create two new towns along Interstate 35 called Reaganville and Jericho Hill because of booming growth along I-35 north of Austin. In response to this development, the townspeople decided that they would rather keep their own identity and name than accept the change which would have affected them indirectly. They retains "Sherman" as their only legal name until it is repealed by state law or changed by popular vote

Sherman is a small town in the Texas Panhandle, located about an hour and a half west of Amarillo. The population was 951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Nacogdoches, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area. Sherman has been inhabited by Native Americans for over a century, and it was founded in 1879 by Confederate troops under General John C. Frémont. In 1865, Sherman's father-in-law, Colonel James Walthall Sherman, played a significant role in helping to protect Fort Hood from Union forces during the Battle of Fort Hood on November 3–4 of that year. In 1881, Sherman married Anna Maria Laney and they ranched in the area until their death in 1951. After his wife's death, he married Nannie Whitehurst and they lived there until his death in 1981. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery with his wife and two daughters: Cynthia (b born 1948) and Patricia (b born 1950). His son-in-law Richard Stillwagon served as Mayor of Sherman from 1995 to 2001; he also ran for sheriff against incumbent Donny Ray Webb in 2002 but lost to Webb by 312 votes out of 1 million cast. Sherman had its first post office established on March 15, 1880, under the name "Amarillo". The current ZIP code 79515 provides postal service within the town limits only; outside those boundaries services are provided by nearby Crossroads Post Office which opened on October 24th 1985 inside an old cotton gin built near present day Midland Boulevard and Ulysses Road intersection just east of Interstate 20 between Amarillo and Nacogdoches counties
