Sherman, Texas is the seat of Sherman County and it was so named in 1871 after General Ulysses S. Grant, the first American general to be awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry at Gettysburg. The town began as an agricultural community and soon became a major center for ammunition production in the area. Ammunition has been an important part of military life throughout history and Sherman was one of the premier producing areas in the country during World War II. Today, ammunition production continues to play a vital role in society and the economy here, with many people involved in this aspect of commerce and industry. The first shooting galleries were built in what is now Sherman on November 17th, 1851 by John W. Logan (the founder of Logan Gun Works). These were used by pioneers who would go out Rifle Range to shoot deer or other game. In 1855, Jno Hatton opened his own rifle range which quickly became one of the most popular around town. He also started manufacturing shotguns and handguns here at his factory. By 1860, there were over 20 gun stores operating in town along with a dozen shops that produced cannons, artillery pieces, rifles and pistols. In 1861-1865 both Confederate States Army & Union Army conducted several large battles near Slaughtertown which resulted in massive casualties among both sides including 5500 dead Yankees & 4000 Confederates killed alone In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant ordered all guns & ammo destroyed due to lack of ammo availability

Sherman is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,519 at the 2010 census. Sherman was founded in 1879 and named for General Winfield S. Grant who served as both U.S. Army Chief of Staff and Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln. Sherman is located in the eastern portion of Waller County on the border of Williamson County. The land which now makes up Sherman was first settled by people from Kentucky in 1839, when they came to the area to mine coal for shipment back home. The first post office was established in 1840, and the name changed to Sherman in 1865 when it became part of Waller County. The town site lay near present-day Midland Road (U.S.) 287 and US 183 before these two routes were laid out as part of the Compound Road System within Texas during the 19th century. In 1879, Hernando Peebles organized a group of miners who had struck it rich veinning coal near Sherman while working for other mines east of Midland City on what would later become I-40/I-35 east of Dallas. When he died in 1892 without leaving an heir apparent, his mining company passed its properties along to his nearest relative John Dolph Peebles Sr., namesake for one half brother only—Hernando’s son John Dolph Peebles Jr.—who did not travel far enough downriver to claim any shares himself but instead developed Midland City into a thriving commercial center around which new miners started clustering because they could sell their ore there rather than transport it all the way downriver where transportation costs were prohibitively high or impossible to afford even if possible). By 1901, about 60% of all production at Harvey Mining Company took place within 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Midland City proper; much less traveled ores were taken away by rail cars across country due then-high freight rates just beyond Marshall County limits! When combined with advances made by petroleum engineers during World War II (aided by newly discovered reserves at Waco), this gave rise to what has come to be known as "the Big Three"mining companies: Harvey mined oil from shale formations offshore off Texas; Consolidated Mines & Refining produced gas from natural gas fields mainly around Wichita Falls; and Gulf Oil produced asphalt from bituminous rock deposits near San Angelo northward into Kleberg county through well sitesnarfed by ConocoPhillips until finally National Transportation Company leased most operations ashore northwest corner FM 972 about midway between Wichita Falls & San Angelo prior both companies merging circa 1960). And so began our long history . . . starting with one man's dream—a drive southward from Lexingtonville on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard past some old abandoned mines dating back more than 125 years! From there we went our separate ways becoming forgotten towns before slowly returning together again throughout recent decades thanks largely to various state highway money allocations earmarked specifically for East Texans!: A visit here today couldn't be more different than when I last visited over 160 years ago!

This weapon was used for hunting animals and later became popular among European feudal lords. Over time, different types of firearms were developed using various methods including castration (invented by Leonardo da Vinci), gunpowder (developed from natural substances like charcoal and wood) and muzzle loading devices (a device thatfired small round pellets through a tight opening at the back end of a shotgun). All these weapons required new types of ammunition to be developed to take advantage of their latest technologies

Samuel died in 1892, but John Mose Winchester continued production of the rifle until 1903. In 1892, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company introduced the Model 1886 revolver which fired a .45 calibre cartridge. This weapon became well-known for its accuracy and power.
Sherman is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. Sherman was founded in 1881 by James W. Sherman and his brother-in-law, George W. White. The town had a population of 2,000 residents at the time of its incorporation on November 14, 1881. It grew to over 10,000 by the end of the 20th century. Sherman is named after General Ulysses S. Grant's deputy secretary of war during the American Civil War, Samuel J. Sherman (1820-1902). The first post office in Sherman was established in 1878; it closed operations in 1886. The first store opened in 1882 and continued operating until 1915; it was replaced by a bank building that served as the town hall from 1911 to 1951. In 1916, local farmers formed a community association called The Grange which promoted agriculture and built a school to serve the townspeople; this organization continued operation until 1922 when it merged with another local group known as The Protective League which advocated for social welfare programs for members of black townships near Sherman on the latter's rancho Grande land south of Midland City eastward into Hood County
