Seguin is a small town in Nueces County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,838 at the 2010 census. Seguin is home to the Seguin Independent School District and the Seguin Arts District. The first people to live in what is now Seguin were French Canadian settlers who arrived in 1827. They built a log cabin on the present site of the town in 1829. The first post office was established in 1832. In 1861, an act of Congress designated the area around Seguin as part oftx Land Grant to Stephen Fenton Worth, Jr., one of Texas's early pioneers and ranchers. In 1886, when James Witte purchased land east of Seguin from J C Price, he named it Witte Ranch after himself and his brother-in-law John Prentiss Witte (1824-1902), also an early settler in this area. The ranch became known as Witte Park after Mr.Witte's death in 1902. In 1905, two brothers started a family farm near present day downtown Seguin and called it Beechwood Farmstead because their farmland extended into Beechwood Forest beyond town limits. On December 15, 1867, they purchased 8 acres of land north of present-day Seguin from John Burchill. The Seguins built their first house on the property in 1870.
