In the early 1900s, Seguin was a small town in East Texas. It was known for its oil production and ranching. In 1902, Seguin voted to create an optical store. The store was started by two friends, Wm. E. Kapp and John Bigham, and they named it the Optical Company of America. By 1907, the company had opened a branch location in Dallas. In 1912, the company moved to their present location at 5200 S Loop 1604 in Seguin. From 1912-1915, the Optical Company of America produced a television system called "The Ray". This system used mirrors to project images onto sound waves that were then listened to through headphones or speakers

Seguin, Texas (population: 24,000) is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was estimated to be 26,812 at the 2010 census. Seguin is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by John W. Seguin and his father-in-law, James J. White as a farming settlement on the banks of the Sabine River about midway between Austin and Round Rock. It grew rapidly due to its location along the railroads and its access to water supplies from both rivers. In 1902, Seguin became an incorporated town with a school and post office. In 1925, it annexed White Settlement east of the river for a total population of 34 residents. During World War II, Seguin played an important role in the development of airfields in central Texas and contributed many soldiers to the war effort. The post office closed in 1955 but reopened one year later as Midland Post Office under new management with assistance from Army Air Forces Station Midland which had been established nearby that year. The town's first high school opened in 1957; it was eventually replaced by Midland High School which merged with Highland Park High School in 2003 to form Hidalgo County Community Education Center (HCCEC). In 1965, Seguin became home to America's first computer store when Commodore Inc.'s Main Street Computer Store opened on South Lamar Boulevard across from Central High School; it continued operations until 1984 when it moved into what is now known as Best Buy Co., Ltd., a shopping mall built adjacent to Interstate 35W near downtown Austin
