Seguin, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in east-central Brazoria County, about 12 miles (19 km) north of Houston and 3 miles (5 km) south of Corpus Christi. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. Seguin was founded by pioneers on May 25, 1874 during the Texas Revolution as a small rancho called Rancho de la Cueva y San Antonio de Padua. The first post office in Seguin was established on July 4, 1875. The name "Seguin" originates from an old Spanish phrase meaning "the place where Christians have been gathered." At that time there were only about 50 buildings and no corresponding village or town center due to strong Indian resistance to white settlement in what is now Brazoria County. A school was built in Seguin in 1881 and two churches were built soon thereafter: one dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua and the other to Our Lady of Guadalupe which served as the parish church until 1931 when it became part of Corpus Christi Parish under control of mayor Pedro Martinez's administration. In 1906Seguin had its first movie theater open with a projector used for religious services at One South Main Street before becoming a popular spot for summer picnics and weddings up until World War II when it all but disappeared due to bombings brought on by Japan during World War II; however some buildings still stand today including the Old Schoolhouse which housed Seguin High School from 1926-1975 A new high school opened in Seguin on November 8th, 1975 named Lamar High School after then Congressman Lloyd Bentsen who also attended Bishop Dunphy Catholic High School there while he represented Houston’s Third Congressional District from 1965-1973 After serving as Mayor Pro Tem from 1993-2001 Lynwood Vining succeeded him As Mayor OfSeGUIN Headed City Council From 2003 Topresent

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, however, Seguin suffered from economic problems caused by various factors such as weak demand for goods coming from out of state. As a result, many businesses closed down and crime increased. Today,SeGuin is an unincorporated community located in McLennan County with a population of around 50 people
