Seguin is a small town in northeastern Texas, located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 5,471 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Seguin" comes from Spanish, and means "place where two rivers meet." The original settlers were farmers who came to this area in the 1820s. They named their community after Stephen Seguin (1826-1900), an American journalist and author who wrote extensively about Texas and its people. In 1902, Seguin became a municipal seat with a population of 686. The first post office in Seguin was opened in 1892. The townspeople built a schoolhouse in 1902 and added a second floor for use as a cultural center soon afterward. In 1916, Seguin vecinos agreed to construct a shopping mall which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Dallas-Fort Worth until it closed its doors in 1984 following several decades of decline. In 2007, local businessmen bought the mall from developers who had been trying to reopen it for over twenty years. They converted it into an entertainment complex called Live Nation Center that included four venues – three concert halls and one arena – as well as numerous shops, restaurants, hotels and other businesses. Live Nation Center has now been closed for several years due to financial troubles but has been repurposed by developer James Litton as an intimate wine salon/restaurant called Le Monde du Vin which overlooks downtown Seguin from across Elm Street between Ross Avenue and Walnut Street
