The first gun mag in Seguin, Texas was the Seguin Rifle and Pistol Club, which opened its doors on September 1, 1882. The club was formed to support local rifle and pistol shooting competitions. Seguin, Texas is a small town located in the eastern part of Texas, about 20 miles from Austin. The population was 9,827 at the 2000 census. It is one of two cities in Travis County and is included within the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The city has a humid subtropical climate (Cfa), with hot, sticky summers and mild to cool winters; average monthly temperatures range from 26 degrees Fahrenheit in December to 88 degrees Fahrenheit in May. Seguin is known for its cotton fields, cattle ranching and turkey hunting opportunities. The first Europeans to visit what today is Seguin were Spanish explorers who named it San Antonio de Bexar after their capture of a Indian chief named Santiago de Bexar on July 3rd, 1519. In 1836 Mexican authorities named it Pecos after General Antonio López de Santa Anna—the dictator of Mexico City at the time—who had been governor of Coahuila y Tejas (present-day El Paso). In 1881 Pecos was renamed Seguin in honor of Judge James A. Seguin who had donated land for the city’s founding and served as its first mayor from 1889 until his death in 1915. In 1915 Seguin became an independent municipality when Tarrant County was organized into counties by Governor Edmund Gentry Johnston following the collapse of Texan statehood that year. At that time much of east Travis County including Seguin lay within Coryell County which then consisted mostly of rural unincorporated areas outside Austin or any major urban centers such as Dallas or Houston. When Reagan was elected President on November 4th, 1980 he appointed former Congressman Don Young as Secretary of Commerce which led to county commission status being granted toSeGUINon February 1st 1981 permanently giving it municipal status along with all other unincorporated areas inside Travis County boundaries thereby eliminating mostof Coryell’s amateurish resistance to federal government jurisdiction over local affairs while still retaining some vestige ol self-reliance through individual property ownership requirements previously imposed by county commissioners even though these have slowly eroded over time(see also: Annexation Question). Incidentally during this same period Reagan also created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Headquarters Building Blocks Office Park off US Highway 183 just east of downtownSeGUINon adjacent to White Sands Missile Range where construction began on NASB HQ Phase I on October 14th 1978 under orders from Reagan himself less than 2 months after he took office(see Annexation Question). This large park now occupies more than 8 million square feet inside downtownSeGUINon making it one of largest government buildings built outside Washington D.C., larger even than Capitol Hill NW although many NTN members feel that NASB HQ should be moved out countrywide because its size relativeto other government buildings makes it difficult or impossible to efficiently manage& includes high levels OF traffic congestion inside & outside building due mainlyto large number OF people workinginside building ratherthan surrounding open space which would allow more lenient management measures like separating staff responsibilities among different agencieswithin Buildingrather thnt would lead t o increased traffic congestion) TodaySeGUINon borders Round Rock & Georgetown on three sides while MidtownHouston lies directly across Guadalupe River valley southpawardwestward between MidtownHouston & DowntownAustin roughly paralleling Interstate 35W With more than 100K residents living alone (& growing rapidly due t o increasing affluence among young adults) there are few if any MIDDLE CLASS homes Widespread employment opportunity availableoutsideofgovernment services but LOTS Of transportation pollution resultingfromHighwayClosures resulting from Smog Alerts put out by State DepartmentofTransportation
