Seguin is a town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Seguin post office was established in 1879 and discontinued in 1936. The first settlers in what is now Seguin were members of the Baptist Church who came from nearby Arlington and Humble. They were able to purchase land from David Fenton, who had homesteaded it near present day Big Spring on November 3, 1881. The original town site was located where Slaughter Road today intersects Waco Road (now I-35W). Early settlers built cabins along Slaughter Road which later became known as "the Turnpike". A Methodist church was organized in 1885 and services were held there until 1906 when a new church was built on Main Street east of present day US 287. In 1907, the town voters erected a schoolhouse on Main Street which served as their local government center until 1933 when they moved to their current location. During World War II many locals enlisted and served in the US military as infantry or airmen with various units including the 5th Air Force's 512th Bombardment Wing at Reynolds Field (now Fair Park) southwest of Seguin and RAF Gander International Airport southeast of Seguin which activated during early 1942 just before Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor starting World War II Pacific theater campaign that ended with Japanese surrender September 2, 1945 . After Japanese surrender local residents engaged with keeping control over post-war Reconstruction period started by Ulysses S Grant administration including restoration efforts for old lumber mills closed during war years such as Alcoa mill closure & National Coal Corporation mill closure . On October 15 1949 oil well blowout killed 16 people about 30 miles northeast ofSebringtown TX also caused $2 million damage . Finally Post Office opened February 17 1953 under name Sherman Wells
