The first settlers in what is now Seguin came from Mexico and were farmers. In 1849, John Gassaway settled in what is now Seguin and started a cattle ranch. By 1870, there were over 20 businesses in Seguin with a population of 2,500. In 1907, the city of San Antonio was founded on the west side of town and quickly grew to become one of the most important cities in Texas. However, because it was near Mexican territory during the time that San Antonio developed, Mexican authorities did not allow American citizens to vote or own property in the city. However, many American citizens who had residency within Mexico voted on local issues until 1920 when they were finally allowed to do so. Consequently, between 1907-1920 much of what is today called downtown Seguin (including present day Mission Park) was built by Americans who had moved into San Antonio after its establishment as an independent city. In 1925 amendments to the United States Constitution granted voting rights to African Americans which began a process whereby blacks became integrated into white society throughout Southwestern America through education and work opportunities. As a result of this changeover many black families relocated from east Houston to west Austin for economic reasons during World War II due to rocket scientists who operated out of White Sands Missile Range being recruited by Nazi Germany for their wartime weapons development program; however no information exists about any black families living inSegui

Seguin, Texas is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. The name "Seguin" comes from Spanish and means "place of the cedar trees." The town was founded in 1881 by brothers John and George Seguin, who named it after their father's home village of Segunda de Mayo in Navarre Province, Spain. It became a city on July 1, 1907. The first post office in Seguin was established on December 16, 1881. On November 25 of that year the Seguins opened a general store fronting Center Street. By 1893 there were nine businesses in Seguin with a total payroll of $2,752. In 1903 the original Post Office building burned down and was replaced by a new structure built on Cemetery Road just west of present day San Antonio Boulevard south of I-10/US 290 Loop (now US 281). The first mayor to serve Seguin as an individual was Wm Higginson who served from 1903 until 1916 when he bequeathed his responsibilities to A.J. Schieffer who served until 1931. On November 3rd 1902 Congressman Tom Fenton took office as the 8th member of Congress from Tarrant County and soon found himself interested in promoting trade ties with Mexico City through transportation projects including construction of what is now Loop 410 which linked Old San Antonio Road with Eagle Ford Creek providing easy access for goods moving between Mexican soil and American markets across Mexico City land boundaries then under Spanish rule
