In 1876, Seguin was founded by pioneers John W. Seguin and his family. The town grew rapidly due to the opening of the Texas Railroad in 1881 and a boom in cattle ranching. By 1907, Seguin had over 1,000 residents and was a small city. In 1916, Seguin was renamed Dallas after General James Longstreet, the first U.S. president to be impeached for perjury.
