The town of Seguin, Texas is located in the heart of the Lone Star State and has been around for over 125 years. The town was originally called "Seguin" after General Sam Houston's forces successfully defended the area during the Mexican-American War. The name was changed to "Seville" in honor of Spanish Prime Minister Vicente Sevilla. Today, Sevilla is a small but thriving community that sits on a bluff overlooking the San Antonio River. The local economy depends heavily on agriculture and ranching. The town has a grocery store, post office, cafe, hospital, school system and many other businesses. In addition to its heavy reliance on agriculture, Sevilla also enjoys some more recent development: Restaurants and bars have started to flood into the town since it became popular with SXSW attendees who are often drawn to its live music scene and delicious food options. The history of Seguin dates back to 1836 when Jose Avila founded what would become known as "El Rancho de las Minas." Over time, El Rancho grew larger until it encompassed almost all of present day Seguin County. This land had once been part of Mexico but was acquired by America through a series of treaties following the Mexican-American War. The first settlers arrived in 1838 and by 1840 there were 176 people living in Seguin County alone! By 1865 only 10 residents remained! Today, Sevilla is home to an estimated 500 people who are descendants of those original settlers who arrived over 125 years ago! Many businesses continue to operate within the community despite its dwindling population; these include banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo), restaurants (Aqua Zen), bars (Papa John's Pizza) and even a small museum dedicated to El Rancho de las Minas which still stands today!

Seguin, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,969 at the 2010 census. Seguin is part of the Austin metropolitan area. The town was founded by pioneers in 1879. It grew rapidly during the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its location on the Rio Grande and its access to shipping and agriculture. The post office called Seguin "the little trading post on the range" because it was the only stop on horseback from Durango and Chihuahua in what is now Hudspeth County. In 1907, a railroad connection arrived that allowed for more rapid growth of Seguin and other nearby towns as cotton farms became established along the river valley. Seguin experienced significant economic decline during World War II; however, since then it has regained some of its former prosperity thanks to new development in manufacturing and service sectors. Today, Seguin is home to a variety of cultural activities including art galleries, music festivals, rodeo events, and a large number of small businesses.

Its land acquisition and development process was slow due to lack of resources and Native American resistance. The Texan Revolution (1835-1836) ended with Mexican independence and began a decades-long struggle for control over Mexico's southern borderlands. The Railroad Commission Act of 1867 created the largest single government infrastructure project in U.S. history when it authorized construction of the Transcontinental Railroad through Texas by private enterprise companies under a $40 million contract award from President Andrew Johnson. After years of debate and construction, the railroad reached Dallas on Decatur Street in 1869; became legally operative as the North Central Railway Company on Jan 1, 1870
