In the early nineteenth century, Seguin was a small town in Texas that served as the center of firearms production and trade. Seguin, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by John Seguin and his father, James Seguin. The first post office in Seguin was established in 1885. The name "Seguin" derived from Spanish "Segundo" meaning second or junior and "Huguenal" meaning marshy ground or prairie. In 1907, John Pemberton donated land to the town for a public square that became known as Pemberton Square. In 1937, septic systems were installed in all of the businesses in Seguin and one year later Waco Water Company began operations along I-35W to supply water to Seguin residents and businesses. A library was built in 1955 on Main Street and it remains operational today as the only library in Seguin with an online presence. In 2006, construction began on a new high school which opened its doors to students on September 30th of that year. The current high school building replaced the old McDonough High School which sat on property belonging to La Cueva Independent School District until it shut down due to budget cuts back in 2002/2003. In 2013 there was controversy over plans by local developers for a Walmart Supercenter adjacent to US 281 just outside of town limits; this proposal led to protests from local citizens who saw it as another example of corporate greed polluting their community while wealthy people got richer without taxation burdensomely changing their behavior or lifestyles withinSeGUIN! In 1916 Señor Márquez donated land to build a public school which would serve as the centerpiece of Seguin’s infrastructure growth. The school initially functioned as simply a place where students could go to learn about agriculture or other subjects before going on to college or work in nearby cities. However, due to its importance within society and its location within easy access for both residents and visitors alike – Seguin quickly became one of Texas’ most popular tourist destinations. During World War II (1939-1945), many jobs were destroyed in Dallas by American forces during their bombing campaign against Germany; this left many men unemployed who turned to farming in order provide food for their families back at home. As result of this trend señor márquez donated additional land south of downtown seguín so that individuals could continue growing crops while also constructing homes onsite; these homes would later become known as the “Old Townehuis” after they were renovated in the 1970s/1980s (Mendez et al., 2003). During this time period señor márquez also donated money towards building public schools throughout his colony; these schools have since been renamed after him such as la Salle School District #5 (Alvarado et al., 2006).
