Seguin, Texas is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,874 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded by Anglo-Dutch settlers in 1839. The first post office in Seguin was established in 1846. By 1860, the population had increased to 2,000 and it became an incorporated village under the name "Seguin." In 1907 it annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of Lubbock. As a result of this annexation, Seguin became one of several towns in Waller County that received power from the Federal government to levy taxes for public education and defense purposes. In 1916 Seguin voted to become an open-air market with unlimited hours until 9pm; this experiment failed because customers preferred to buy goods before dark. That same year Seguin voters passed a resolution asking their county commissioners to create a park on city owned land east of town which they then leased back to the municipality for $1 per year until 2031; this also failed because county commissioners were unwilling to spend money on such an expensive project when there were more pressing issues elsewhere within the county. In 1951 Seguin voters passed a resolution establishing themselves as an agricultural center with specific goals including creating Hope Mills Airport (now known as Midway International Airport) and expanding crop production into new areas such as Medina Valley and Potter Valley due to low prices for inputs brought about by World War II shortages caused by Government Motors' closure of Uptown Dallas plants during those years (the plant's output would later be replaced by Toyota). This program largely succeeded but did not bring much economic development directly toSeGuin until later years when other industries began moving into what had once been farmland near Hope Mills Airport; these include medical technology companies like Abbott Laboratories (later HCA) which moved their headquarters from Dallas after being acquired by Walgreen's pharmacy chain in 1984; restaurants such as Chick-fil-A and Wendy's opened up shop here soon afterwards while small businesses continued struggling through tough times throughout most of the 1990s until improving times arrived following passage of state legislation authorizing Economic Development Authority grants that helped improve local job opportunities throughout most of 2000s although some members continue struggling today with limited resources

Today, Seguin is one of the most vibrant small towns in Texas with active local government and industry sectors including agriculture (farming), information technology (information technology), retail trade (commerce), construction/engineering/manufacturing (housing/residential development), health care (medical services), education (higher education), professional services (legal services) and entertainment (entertainment). Seguin has been located on the eastern edge of what is now Hidalgo County for over 20 years and it was only in 1876 that pioneers first named it "Seguin" after a Spanish word meaning "place where cattle are pastured."
